Sat pics (4-12) At the dragstrip!
An abandoned drag strip that is! I spotted this a couple weeks back while on a parts run and was dying to go back for some pics. I'm still searching for info on the site, but so far I've come up with very little. I'm going to try to get with my father-in-law in the next couple of days to see what he can tell me. You can see the return lane off to the right in this pic. |

Re: Sat pics (4-12) At the dragstrip!
I was really hoping to see some structure remnants but they were long gone aside from a couple concrete blocks.
Another shot of the return road. There was a sign by the highway stating the site was future home to a church. I'm sure what little is left will be gone soon! I hope to get back for some more shots with my lowrider before it's all gone forever! As always, I'll be posting some tints and effects to go with these tomorrow. I hope you guys like em! |

As usual, excellent pictures!! You are single handedly going to make me put wider rims and tires on the 69 swb 4x4.
That is interesting about the drag strip. I bet there are stories to tell. john

Re: Sat pics (4-12) At the dragstrip!
Nice pics. As good as those are I would get them blown up and framed. I know of a good site to get up to a 20"x30" print.

Re: Sat pics (4-12) At the dragstrip!
It makes me sad that all the old drag strips are slowly disappearing. I have been in support of trying to get US 30 reopened since 1984 when it got closed. US 30 Dragstrip is in Hobart Indiana. Its been there for as long as I can remember. I spent many Sundays there as a kid. All the great ones were there. The reason it was closed cause a sub division was built at the end of the shut down area. These people build there knowing that there was a dragstrip there and started to complain about it. How screwed up is that? I want that property...I want the sub division at the end of it. If I had the money...I would make sure it was all mine. I would sell or rent those houses out the car and truck guys...that wouldnt complain. There would be some kind of contract that would be made up that if they complain they get evicted. They would have to sign it to get in there. New name for the sub division...Hot Rod Estates!
Ok I am done ranting.

So what was your ET and what MPH did you trap at? What was your 60ft? Place looks deserted, what did you run against?

Re: Sat pics (4-12) At the dragstrip!
The only thing I ran against was the clock! I saw three different ways to access the property and the one I entered through was the only one that wasn't posted with NO TRESSPASSING signs. There were some people out in their yard across the road from where I pulled in so I was fully anticipating the arrival of local LEOs. I already had my back story working in my head of how I was shooting photos for historical documentation due to the impending final destruction due to the new church. I've got doubts about how well that would've went over but fortunatly I didn't have to find out. I guess it would have depended on the landowners. I think it's pretty difficult to be charged with tresspassing if the signs aren't posted where one can be seen while standing at the next (or at least that's what I've always been told about keeping hunters off our property). If signs aren't posted generally a warning has to be issued before you can be charged. At least that's what the police have always told me. Tell the tresspasser to leave and then call the LEOs. I feel that I'm always courteous of others property when I'm taking pics and I'm going to do what I can to avoid a trip to the local pokey. Anytime I'm shooting somewhere questionable I get in and out as quick as I can!

Awesome truck. That is what I want mine to look like. Could you tell me a little about your suspension setup, rim and tire size, gearing, and what you have under the hood. Do you have a build thread?
Bloody nice.

Re: Sat pics (4-12) At the dragstrip!
Thanks guys!
These pics were shot with a Kodak Easyshare Z712IS. It's a point and shoot digital that does pretty good. I feel that these are for from the best that I've taken recently, but I really liked the location and hope to learn more about it. I built this truck way before I knew what the internet was, but I did kinda throw together a build thread with some pics I scanned. You've gotta remember that when I put this truck together was about the time of the abscence of NOS parts as well as pre-reproduction parts. You couldn't buy doors, bedsides or real tailgates. About the only thing out there was rockers and corners and they didn't fit that good! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=build This truck has a 4" Skyjacker softride system with springs on all four corners (no blocks). Tires are 33x12.50 Mickey Thompson radial claws on 15x10 Mickey Thompson Challenger wheels. The gearing is 3.08 which I realize wouldn't be worth squat off road but it's like running an overdrive on the interstate. The engine is the original 350 which now runs a Comp cams 4x4 camshaft as well as roller tip rockers. I'm also running an Edelbrock performer aluminum intake (painted orange for the stealth effect). I threw away the factory fan and replaced it with a dual electric flex a lite piece. I can pull about 12.5 mpg on the interstate while running the A/C. Hey see ten, I see that you where in my neighbor hood. The next time you are coming over to the old drag strip, let me know. I can tell you what the locals say about it.

Share what you know with us brother! My wife says that her dad talked about it being closed after a death? Not real sure on this end, but I'll try to get with him sometime in the next few days.

Not the drag strip but I thought you might like to see them. How often do two 2WD Blazers show up at one time to get worked on!

Kevin, don't be shy....You know you had another one on the property when you shot that pic! You're obviously the pied piper of the 2wd K5! Those both look great and I'm sure that they'll leave your place looking better.
