Is the hood binding on the fenders?

my hood use to not pop up either ... i noticed one day that the passenger side rivet on the hinge was wasn't holding the hinge together very well ... swapped it out for a good tight one and after that ..It pops up ... the rivets get stretched over time and cause alittle bit of resistance ..its enough sometimes to keep that hood from jumpin up when you hit the latch

What about the spring in the latch? Could it need replacing?

My 71 was doing the same thing. The hinges were adjusted wrong and the hood was binding on the release mechanism. Adjusted the hinges DOWN in the back and the hood FORWARD on the hinge, and it works great now.

When I got my '72, the hood wasn't "popping", either. I looked over all the mechanical parts, and they seemed to be in good order. The hood bumpers (the ones along the fenders, not the ones in front) looked a bit tired, so I went ahead and spent the $5 on a new set. Voila! Hood opens like it's supposed to now.

If it used to open fine and you have not adjusted the fit I would agree with all the rest about the hinges. I lubed everything had a butter knife in the box and one day the hinge just broke. Best thing that happened. Changed the hinges and have not had a problem.

cool, thanks guys. I actually just pulled the hood and front clip last night, so when I put it all back together I will try some of these tricks.
Thanks! PS Kingsolver, I used to have a good pic of reagan in my avatar with the quote "greatest american" but I think that was a little much for this board and it's strict no politics policy (a good policy by the way) |
