Trick power steering?

Next project on the list is improved steering.(Power Steering) My SWB '70 has manual steering, '90 truck front spindles, rotors, calipers, etc., and 285/50/20 tires. Oh, and a smaller than stock Grant steering wheel. Can you say "A ***** to turn"? I am interested what you guys have used for steering boxes. I would really like to use something with a tighter ratio, but still bolt right in. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Trick power steering?

AGR makes a 2wd steering box required on 4wds using crossover steering.I imagine these would be nice in a 2wd.

'Been thinking about one of those AGR units...If they would cut the price in half I'd stop thinking and lay down the green. I would like to try one of those mini 'type II' power steering pumps with the remote res. too. Be slick, clean and near invisible!

Re: Trick power steering?

I used a power steering gear box out of a 79 chevy 2WD truck and it bolted right in with no trouble. I was told that 68-79 power steering boxes will bolt right in.

Re: Trick power steering?

Any others? Finding a 76 chevy truck steering box maybe like that perverable needle and haystack.

Re: Trick power steering?

Arron - the problem with the car boxes you mentioned is that they mount inside the frame wereas the truck box is outside the frame. They just don't fit the truck mounting. There has been some talk of Jeep boxes being very quick but I don't know about the mounting.

Have fun - Bob

Re: Trick power steering?

I just bought my entire power steering kit off of this guy myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/truckparts67_72

for $340 from ebay. You might check with him and see if he can make you a deal.

Re: Trick power steering?

Hey, Cfoust3,
I hope for your sake you didn't pay this guy up front! He's the Lone Oak, TX bozo that isn't allowed on this board. I, along with others, was burned big time by this guy.

On a lighter note, nice truck!
Looke almost exactly like mine!

Re: Trick power steering?

I did pay up front, got my parts yesterday. Everything is great with it. All perfect parts just as he described.

I did read about that guy just a few minutes ago, and I guess I dodged a big bullet with my purchase. I won't buy from him again. Thank goodness I didn't get burned.

Re: Trick power steering?

Thanks 70GMCer, Semper Fi,
Maybe I should rephrase the question. What stock steering box(camaro, delta 88, 74 vega wagon, etc...) has a tighter ratio and still bolts right in place?
