Project ''Second Time Around''

First off I would like to introduce myself. I've been building custom trucks for twenty years for my own entertainment. This 93 Silverado was originally my old work truck, I drove it for four years before retiring it. Before retiring it, I used it for my project truck. Being an electrician by trade I am allowed to pick my own work truck and this was perfect with being a 2wd, 4.3. I could still haul stuff, get good gas mileage, and when it was all paid for, I would have an awesome project truck.
So far on this truck I've bagged the front, added drop spindles and a rear flip kit with helper bags. And the paint that the kids love (that was done in my garage).
Unfortunately, it was put on the back burner.

Here is a rendering that I did a few years ago;

Here are some pics from 04.

I hate to see it rot on my side yard. So I have decided to take it to the next level.

I'm waiting to see the rebuild. I think it looks good as is except for the cat eye grill.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Pardon my french, but the artistic rendering sure looks like it has a '97 F-150 grille/lights. Don't get me wrong, the effect is smooth. I just wanted to know if I saw what I think I saw.

Didn't want to see another truck that says, "Like a rock....with a Ford block"...that I saw on the tailgate of an 88-98...several years ago.

Chev, I think that's supposed to be a first-gen escalade conversion.

I'm with Rob -- I can't imagine what the next level is gonna be! Are you planning to lay frame?

Did you do any mods to the interior? A pics of it? That's a great looking truck.

I don't have any pics uploaded. I was hoping to get it in the garage today, but I parked my mustang in front of it and that wouldn't start. I've never had a problem with it starting it until now. I haven't registered that for ten years. I know... I don't want to here it... I'll take some pics of the interior tomorrow.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Today was a good day/bad day. I finally pulled the truck in the garage--after a tune-up to the mustang and then a cap and rotor to my Burb.

After doing that, I had to figure out how to tug it out of the backyard. I totally forgot about the hitch on the truck. When I bought the truck it had one on it, the good part was it was in two pieces. I simply flipped it over and bolted it in. I never got around to cutting the hole in the rollpan, so I did that too. I used the front tow hooks on my 97 Z71 to tug it out. I had to put it in 4 low because of the mud. My brother and I pushed it up the driveway while my wife steered. Thanks Jeff.

Here's is inside.

Yes, that's the steering wheel that turns 9 different colors.

Thanks for the inside pics. It's clean. I'm trying to come up with a plan for redoing mine. I want to keep it simple and just spice it up a little. Glad you finally got into the garage.

You don't see those seats very often -- they're factory, aren't they?

Keep the pics coming 19723DR, Lookin good !!!

Hope you don't mind the thread jack but I see your running wide tires on the front of your 98 DD, Would you mind sharing what size they are and the wheel width ? Also, Do you have any issues driving in the rain ?

I'd like to run wides on the front of my 74 project since I got a smokin deal on four 10" Eagle Alloys.

Thanks

Thank you. I got it from JC Whittney but I don't know if you can get it any more. I've had this about six years. It's made by APC. The one bad thing about it is a cord goes from the steering wheel to a control box so when you turn the cord gets wrapped up around the steering wheel and it's really annoying. I'll post some pictures of it lit up in the dark later.

Thanks for the support. I have followed your build also. You did a excellent job with your 70 GMC. Are there any plans for the 97?

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

This weekend I took the front end apart as far as I could. At least I can see what I'm looking at. The driver side still needs to come off. Next week I'll work on getting the bed off to reach the fuel pump. It will be nice to be able the move it around.

Not much yet, but it's a start.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

I also did some work to my 98 DD. I prefer the Chevy to the GMC. I took the old 93 chrome grill and air-dam that I saved from this project. I also smoked the signal lights wile I was at it. When it worms up I want to paint the bumper and grill black.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Air line.

Mounted to the frame.

Lower bracket. There is a bottom flat plate that is welded to the A arm. I originally had to modify this bracket to fit down inside the A-arm. Most of the kits now come with a lower cup.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

After running the air lines down the frame to the rear I put my 22" wheels on because they are the largest wheels that I have so I can get a good idea of where to place the inner fenders when I make them. Then, I pulled the jack stands and let it down to take some pictures.

Cut the inner fender out so the tire would tuck.
