Re: Silicone removal
Scrape and it if it doesn't peel. There are solvents that claim to remove all traces, but I'm skeptical. My experience has been nothing bonds after that crap has been used. I hate that stuff and wish it was outlawed. People use that stuff as a fix-all like duct tape and bailing wire and all it does is cause a mess for the next guy. I run into it all the time on people's houses where the homeowner or some "handyman" tried to band aid something rather than fix properly. Did I mention I hate it?

Re: Silicone removal
it might help if you described the type of silicone you are dealing with and what you are trying to take it off of

Re: Silicone removal
I've run silicone in my doors near the windows until I put the weather stripping on there so it doesn't rust out the inside of my doors, but in the past when I've dealt with it the only sure fire way I've approached removal is simply scraping that crap off.
where is it located? |

Re: Silicone removal
My post was referring to the fact that even after get the crud off,any way you find works,is you'll still have a problem with paint adhesion. I use a tri-poly urethane caulk (on home exteriors) that is the bomb, but the one thing you can't do is use it where silicone has been used...period!
This stuff takes it off,but still don't trust that paint will adhere. It's called Motsenboger's Lift Off Caulk Silicone and Foam Sealant Remover http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...56146854,d.dmg
