3/4 ton - one ton hub cap Q...

I have seen them with the center pushed in, I have seen them with the center pushed out, I have seen NOS ones pushed in, and NOS ones pushed out... heard a theory of pushed in for the front, pushed out for the back... I've looked at all my truck adds from back in the day, all my factory info, and no pictures show enough detail to tell....
what's it supposed to have, an innie... or an outie?

One pic can tell a thousand words... onless it is hard to see what you're looking at.

Andy,
I just sent you a picture of a set that you will find very interesting indeed. The picture shows front caps and back.

Re: 3/4 ton - one ton hub cap Q...

This will probably confuse matters even more, but I have a set of those, and the centers are pretty much flat. I tried them on, and they cleared my floating Dana 60 hubs just fine. Did the G.M. axle have bigger hubs by any chance?

No Bob,in fact the Eaton is a short outer hub.The hubcaps can be popped if you do it carefully.I`ve always been told the earlier are concave and the later(Chevy/yellow accent)were convex and have found that to be true on any cap that is varifiable, such as n.o.s. or known to be original to the truck. The early GMC caps had black convex centers, didn`t they?

Re: 3/4 ton - one ton hub cap Q...

My longhorn had the original split rims, and hubcaps. It has blue bowties, and I have a picture that show the outie hubcap:

I think you are right, the early GMC caps were painted black in the center, with red GMC lettering. The set I have is not painted in the center, like the ones pictured above. I believe they came off a '73.

Re: 3/4 ton - one ton hub cap Q...

I'm sure the original 69-72 were outies and something else i've noticed is the later models 73-76 were stainless steel and the earlier ones 69-72 being chrome plated. has anyone else noticed this?

I thought all the early ones were stainless
My 68 caps are stainless and I think the set I use to have from a 70 were stainless too...

Re: 3/4 ton - one ton hub cap Q...

lol bucket.
I am 99% sure they are supposed to be outies... but i want some kind of original owner, 35 year old pic, or something like that to 100% verify this.
Billy, I saw that in the pics you e-mailed me (thanks BTW...sweet rig) but I still want to see proof. I ahve that set of GMC caps I just bought off the parts board, and they pop in and out so easily, and with absolutly NO evidence of being popped. So I can pop them in and say they are original, or out and say they are original... I just want to know which way to go before I break out the mother's power ball and stainless polish.

Re: 3/4 ton - one ton hub cap Q...

all my old ones were stainless, and later ones were chrome. The stainless did go into the 73 - 87 years however, I had one that had a yellow bow tie and was stainless, however, have never seen a blue bow tie on chrome
