Re: tailgate removal
IIRC the bottom brackets slide up the channel and when one side is higher than the other it pops apart. Did IIRC???

Re: tailgate removal
And of course installation is reverse of removal.

Re: tailgate removal
Reverse gear and standing tree, don't stop until tailgate is meshed with tree. It will come off then.

Re: tailgate removal
Unbolt one trunion. (the piece the gate pivots on) Pick that side up towards the top of the box. Make sure the gate is open when you do this. It will come out at an angle...

Re: tailgate removal
don't forget to unhook the arms first of course... open the gate all the way, raise it, and get them to fold the oposite direction, then they will get to a point that they can be slid off the gate.

Re: tailgate removal
It is a pain in the butt often times buy you do not have to worry about your gate being stolen. The crappy part is try painting your truck in pieces and then install the gate without scratching anything. That will be a fun trick.

Re: tailgate removal
unbolting stuff? Isn't it... remove the side gate hinges/straps, lower gate to about a 45 degree angle, pluu out right side then pop out left side. The right side should have a notch in it so you can remove the gate without tools. Or am I way off here?

Your right on unless it is an after market gate. I had to cut my own notch in the bottom pass side trunion. I saw a guy with his gate installed with out the notch cut out so he could never remove his gate with out unbolting the back of the box .... you just gotta wonder about some dudes! esll.

Hi there Longhorn, This is the first that I heard of this .... can you offer for us who like to read a source that I can look up and read about this. I see the longhorn site, was this just for these trucks, unless I missed it I didn't see any reference to the gate being made as to not being able to be removed.? Thanks ..... esll.

Re: tailgate removal
You can remove them just not with out unbolting the trunion unless you modify it like I did. Now it comes off with out unbolting the trunion.

Re: tailgate removal
I'm sure it's documented somewhere, but I couldn't tell you where... I have an assembly manual here that is over 2 inches thick... If I am able to locate the tailgat trunion page, I'll make sure to scan it. Bummer they don't have it in any order, or a table of contants.
Yours was as original untill you cut your trunion, and the guy that you have to wonder about, but it on as original. |
