Re: Problems with cowl hood alignment

I got one from LMC and it took a long time to get the alignment to the point I would like it. It is not perfect though and I am not sure the stock hoods alignment was perfect either.

We had to shim some on the fenders where they bolt to the cab and a little at the grill. This was on a '67.

Re: Problems with cowl hood alignment

Well the gaps are good between the fenders and as yo can see from the pic the rear of the hood is flush and the nose of the hood matches the nose of the fender. The problem is the hood sticks up above the fender about 1/8-1/4 the whole length of the fender. Its like the hood is arched and the fender is not. I thought about putting a board whit a towl down the side of the hood and putting some weight on it. I was just wondering if anyone else ran into this and how they fixed it. Both sides are like this and i remember it was like that with oem fenders aswell

Re: Problems with cowl hood alignment

From what I know about them--coupled with my lack of experience trying to align them--
it can be done, but its not easy to get them perfect. The one on my truck when I bought it was close but I was looking for the traditional look so I took it off.
I have talked to a couple shops where they have fought this battle (to get the side of the hood perfect) and I wouldnt want to pay the price to have it done.

The method they used to get the "bow" out of the hood was to cut slits in the side hood lip---weight it down till it was flush with the fender then weld the cuts. Or so they say. I havent seen it done, but I guess it isnt that uncommon-----just expensive.

Wanna buy a good fitting cowl hood? I still have one for sale !!! lol

Re: Problems with cowl hood alignment

If the front and rear are aligned just use a 2x4 wrapped in a towel and massage the high spots with a body blow hammer it can be done
