I started out with the repop 71-72 style....they vibrate too much at speed. Then I swapped over to the repop arm and round mirror [stock for a 70]....they vibrated more. Now I have a set of repop F150 mirrors on there and they vibrate out of place as well.

Does anyone out there have a set of mirrors that will stay still and let me have a clear view at 70mph? I am beginning to doubt that it's possible, but I find myself curious of the low mount tripod design [about the only one I have not tried yet].

do you have any polyurathane body or running gear mounts? when i got rid of mine and went back to factory rubber i could then use mirrors

your problem is not mirrors you need to find and correct the source of your vibrations

I agree......I've owned 5 of these trucks, some factory mirrors and some repro. None had this problem.

Am I the only member that calls them "repro" parts. Who came up with "repop"?

"Repro" is short for reproduction. "Repop" is actually the name of a company that makes reproduction parts. They are made in USA, so IMHO they are the best aftermarket reproductions made. A lot of people (myself included) use the term "repop" when referring to aftermarket parts.

No...all four tires [new six months ago] are balanced and mounts are all stock style and in good shape. I keep everything greased regularly. The problem is cheap mirrors.

To their credit the 71-72 style mirrors vibrated the least, but they are too small for my taste. I love the F-150 mirror's size, but both are loose inside and won't stay in the same position I put them in.

I tried to open them up to get to the actual mirror mount, but couldn't get in without breaking the back plate.I may try again since I am going to replace them. I figured if I could get inside, I could cure most of the problem.

Don't try the aftermarket tripod mirrors. They vibrate like crazy too. Also, I have rubber body mounts and new balanced tires. The problem is cheap Chinese mirrors.

I have repops of the 68 round style, and I have no problems. I looked and can't find a brand name on them, sorry.

Are they mounted directly to the door? Just an idea, maybe you need a rubber isolator gasket ( like cut from a bike intertube) between the door and mirror, and possibly a rubber fused washer on the inside of the door, like they use on the metal roofs on pole buildings.

They are on the door....I did use the plastic shoes, but I never thought about the rubber skirted screws. The housing is fairly still though...it's the actual mirrors that move.

My stalked roundies were horrible about vibrating...got 'em from Classic Parts. I esed the backing plates, factory screws and the shoes....bad vibes.

I have the cheap repops which actually came w/ a rubber gasket that went between the mirror and plastic trim piece. They are a PIA to adjust because they are so tight but while going down the road they stay fairly still. I have all new suspension (shocks, springs, bushings) and new tires though which could be a contributing factor.

I don't know of anyone that could have more vibs than I have with 35" Super Swampers at 75 mph and mine have no visable vibrations in them. I know they are not mounted in the correct location but they work best for me like this.

If it's the glass that's giving you the problem then try applying a small bead of clear silicone mastic to the outer edge where the glass is held by the frame.

OK....more stuff about the truck. The driveshaft is balanced and the u-joints and the carrier bearing are new. The tranny is recently rebuilt and the suspension is all in good shape. I do run 31x10.50 tires but you just read about 35's and no vibes.

I am telling you that the mirrors I have had on this truck suck. There's really no other vibration that is occuring.

I have had them and never had much trouble with them. Might be U joints or a bent drive shaft.

I have the same problem with my mirrors on my '70 - I have '68 brackets with the square mirrors, and they are horrible. I have a set of '70's I'm going to try, but I don't want to put 8,000 holes in put truck if I don't have to.

Is it the movement from the vibration that is causing problems or is it that when it vibrates(normal driving vibes) that the mirrors actually move out of adjustment?
I'm guessing the latter.I had the same problem with a couple ofmirrors over the years and solved(somewhat) the problem by removing the mirror(no cover on them) and pinging the ball and socket with a small punch.It tightened the swivel adjustment enough that they were better but still not great.

I think this is the culprit.... aftermarket mirrors are not well made at all. I decided not to try the tripods....can't find any that don't look completely stupid.

I am going to use clear caulk on one and see if it makes any difference. Since caulk is removable I got nuthin' to lose.

good idea, I had some aftermarket tripod mounts, and on the highway then would just fold right in, pretty much worthless. I was considering using west coast style, but some of them did the same thing.. I guess I have a lead foot?
