Help!
Ok, I recently bought a 1962 Chevy c10 stepside. It was a full restoration a guy started and didn't have the money to complete. The cab was acid dipped and restored, all fenders are clean, disc brakes from 86 silverado, power steering geerbox from 89, and a 350 tbi and 700r4 from the same 89 truck. I also bought a parts truck with an inline 6 and 3 speed manual transmission. What I wanted was a truck with as little computer parts as possible. I'm a computer nerd by trade and would prefer my truck not to be computerized. Originally I wanted the I6 engine with an automatic transmission. This will be an every day driver so I am concerned about fuel economy. The most I would be pulling is 18' boat one day. So should use the I6 and the 700r4, the 350 and 700r4 or I6 and another transmission?
Thanks Buck |

Re: Help!
The 700r4 is a great tranny with overdrive. Motor wise depends on how much power you want. A 350 would pull that boat, an I 6 I'm not sure never had one. But if your truck is geared right I'm sure the I6 would do well.

Re: Help!
Thanks,
I think I will stick with 700r4. What about the torque converter and computer module for it? Is there a way to lock the overdrive automatically without a computer? |

Re: Help!
welcome. Depending on what I6 you have you might be better off with the V8.
The 230 produced 140hp and 220 ft/lbs at best THe 250 produced 150hp and 235 ft/lbs at best and the 292 produced 170hp and 275 ft/lbs at its best Dunno how much power the particular v8 you have makes but I'm willing to bet it's a little more than these. Plus i know the 292 is a gas hog but cool. I have no knowledge of the 230's and 250's. Hope this helps out somehow with your decision.

Re: Help!
I think I would stick with the TBI engine, with an aftermarket harness (cleans everything up) The stock ECM will control the tranny.
You could also reuse the stock harness as well, and remove the unneccesary. Fuel supply is also an issue. Then again, the six backed by a 700 would be cool.

That will help with the TCC wiring, no matter which engine you use. I would go V8, but I think it is a matter of personal preference. |
