ok trucks been in my friends shop since thansgiving. havent been able to work on it for couple weeks now.. driver cab corner is in just have to do some body work to it like putting the filler on.. i have other corner to do still. along with both inner and outer rockers and cab supports.. i have been thinkin... i have flowmaster original 40s on it now. and i have stock exhaust manifolds on it now. since the truck isnt in driving state right now i have thought about doing a manifold swap to headers. which kind should i install... any ideas?? remember i am only 17 and not made of money for the high high doller equiptment...

i know that but i heard that like flowtech the collector rusts out... so not sure what to decide...can u guys tell me what ya got and how ya like them? i am interested in the stainless steel ones.. since im getting chrome inner fenders... if i have to save up to get expensive kinds i will...

Because I have a manual transmission, I chose the stainless steel shorties by Summit and have been pleased with them. I would probably go with the ceramic coated shorties by Summit if I had it to do again since SS will discolor more easily (especially on a new motor) than I anticipated. I completed the exhaust system with glass paks but wish I had gone with something a little quieter since my exhaust exits in front of the rear wheel (right behind my ear). Good luck!

I am using the cheap Hooker Comp headers, only cost like 180ish and they fit great, and havent fallen apart yet, even though I only have like maybe 100 miles on them =]

Summit also makes a cheap set

i got flowtech because im cheap, if i didnt work at a driveshaft shop, it would have cost alot more. had to move engine back 3" and cut massive chunks of a-arm off, beat the headers and make new brake lines. and less than a year their is rust on the ceramic coating.

Hooker comps here too. 2500+ miles. Only changed gaskets once (last weekend), and they fit perfect. Used ceramic header paint, 1/4 of which has flaked off now. Auto trans here tho.

oh ok i still havent made up my mind yet.. i just want something i dont have to take off and put a new set on because i know ppl that work at autozone and they said they see a lot of flow tech headers coming back because the collector rusts out....

Buy a new set of headers, sandblast them, and paint them with VHT paint and they will last several years.That's what I did before I started using coated headers.

Hedman "Elites" Here, perfect fit, 3/4 length, coated, ball
flanges, and under $300 to my door, worth every extra $.

I got the regular uncoated shorty hedmans this time last year. They are just now rusting. The ball and flange is not much better than a regular collector over time so I welded mine to the headpipes.

Next time I think I'll go with Hookers...they seem to have the best fit around.

Flowtechs sound like a really bad idea afterr reading that post!

My '89 had Flowtechs that were @ 5 years old & still looked & sounded good when I sold the truck last spring.

just my 2 cents, but I installed the thorley headers on my 4 speed, 4 wheel drive Blazer this weekend and I couldn't be happier with the fit. They are pricier than some of the others but from what I here, they last a long time.
