To buy or not to buy

Came across this on the interweb. I'm driving over tomorrow to take a look. Guy says it numbers matching but he also says its missing the SPID tag. Any thoughts, recommendations, things to look for, and most of all price. He's asking $30k
Thanks all

It looks very nice. I'd have a hard time coughing up $30k.

Re: To buy or not to buy

"Numbers matching" doesn't bring value to these trucks. Only in Corvettes and cars with specialty equipment like an original LS6 Chevelle.

Nice truck... but I'd have a hard time shelling out 30k for any rig. I would say no... it's not worth that.

Gary- That is a great way of looking it, I would not have considered that being a factor when we discussing numbers matching vehicles; so thanks for that.

OP- That truck looks nice, but not 30K nice IMHO. But hey, the truck will bring in what someone is willing to pay right . . . I think you did well choosing the green one. That's a nice rig.

Re: To buy or not to buy

Seems more than a tad high to me too. Nice truck but I'd keep looking. Or offer him a fair price see what he says. My guess is he's trying to cash out on these trucks new found popularity.

Re: To buy or not to buy

So then another question. What is a fair price for the truck if its as nice as it looks in the pics? AKA I don't find any damage bad repairs, or rust.

Beautiful truck but I just don't think the money is there, maybe if it's clean enough to eat off of but you could build what you wanted for that price.

Re: To buy or not to buy

Two things that jump out. The springs on seat appear to be sticking out. So yeah it had a new cover put on seat but he might have cut corners not fixing the springs properly. The seat looks like the springs are broken down on the front corner at the very least. Point being if he cut corners there where else? The second is the screw hole in the passenger door near the vent window is not in a factory 69 or 70 door. So look very carefully at it. Yeah I'm nitpicking, but at $30 K I want it better than new. It's obviously been coveted to 5 lug's disc brakes which is a plus. Don't get me wrong it appears to be a nicely restored truck. He may have that in it if he farmed out the work. Look at the market. Big Block, short bed's with factory ac are bringing big dollars. Is that your dream truck? If so it's your call what it's worth.

Re: To buy or not to buy

The truck looks real nice in the pics. I love the color! If you want it after inspection, just offer up what you want to pay for it. 30k would not be my offer in your shoes. Maybe start at 20-21.5. Then meet in the middle somewhere ( ~24 ).

Take a magnet.

A magnet will not cover some of your needs and wishes for what it is supposed to be.

It looks close to 30k, then again can someone provide all the detailed pics of the work?

One thing is for sure there is some money in it.

Re: To buy or not to buy

Ive been watching for the past couple years and have yet to see one of these come up for sale near me. I would love to Build one from scratch but i don't have the time. I'm putting all my time and most of my money into HER 65 Impala SS.
The only thing i would change is the fact that my dream truck is two tone orange white orange.

Thanks to all who reply.

Re: To buy or not to buy

Just a couple notes.
30k is a lot of money but if you start restoring one of these, especially with body work and paint, you can get to 30k pretty quickly (assuming you're not doing the work).

I also think the passenger door is off a '72; has the small divot below the vent window.

Re: To buy or not to buy

I'll say this... I've been to a few Barrett Jackson auctions here in New England. I think it would probably bring 30 k at the auction. I couldn't believe a few of the trucks people paid 15 and 20k for! With that said, he's not selling it at Barrett Jackson. The first number that popped into my head was 18k max. It is a nice truck with some money into it but as we all know, ya never get what ya put into them...

Very nice truck.
I doubt you could build it for that.
Any pictures of the SPID?

No spid. If it had one showing all these options I would've bought it and not worry that it's someone trying to pull a fast one.

Re: To buy or not to buy

Nice truck. 30? Maybe to the right buyer. Maybe that's you? Me, maybe 25 tops. But, you can't ever get 25 if you start negotiating at 25. To someone with a ton of money that wants one, 30 is not a lot of money.
It's worth whatever the market will bear. 10 years ago, 20 would have been a stretch.

If you are hung up on a sticker just have Chipflyer make you one. They are identical to the originals and you can add all the options you want

OK. I am fixing to drive four hours to go look at this truck. Any last minute things that I should be looking for like the screw in the door under the vent window?
I really do appreciate everyone's help

Take a good strong light and a piece of cardboard with you so you can slide underneath and look at the floorboards and cab mounts to see if it has been patched up. You may not be able to tell if the frame has been cut from the outside so look on the inside for a gusset that has been welded in.

No way I'm shelling out that kind of money unless the frame, vin plate and SPID match.
