Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
What do you guys think. it has been in a creek bed and is buried almost to the floor. The whole bottom is pretty much gone and the body line is rusted out. Also the roof has a pretty good dent and back is dented pretty good. All replacement parts would be about a grand. I could find one in better shape for cheaper. I may just rob parts and ditch the rest. I was really wanting to start another one especially since this one is free.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
do the best ya can with the salvage of parts - none of these old should end up junked - all have a use of some kind - would be cool to know the history of it and how long it has been there
it worked well for someone - make the good parts work for you juss my 2 cents |

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
It looks pretty well gone but there should be plenty of parts that can be salvaged off of it. It looks like the window moldings and most of the dash are there among other things.

The seat looks very uncomfortable.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
Like I said before If I dont restore I am using it for all its good parts. The history I believe was as you can see it is the 6500 series used as a fuel delivery truck. Their neighbors husband used it for that purpose many years ago. He must have just pushed it in the creek when he was done with it. I am still amazed that there is a lot of paint left on it.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
oh, that is so cool! I once went to an old shop "somewhere" and they had a couple old cars behind their store, and one didn't have the body on it~ a tree had grown in the center of the frame and the frame was part of the tree! wish I had gotten a photo. But I'm sure that there is a story behind your find! ; )

Dig it out and get a better idea what is there. At a bare minimum might make some neat lawn art.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
Ohh it is definately getting dug out. And I am definately keeping parts. My only descision is am I crazy enough to try and salvage the cab. I am pretty crazy and I have been looking for a project. We will have to see if I am really this bored to start this much repair. I may just be that insane though.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
Very nice find. Any find these days is rare. These things are getting very scarce. I loved your other build. It has inspired me to do my own s10 swap. I live just north of you in birmingham.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
I have my longbed s10 tore down to the bare frame rails, sand blaster is acting up at the moment. I cut off all the brackets i wont need and frame horns. Also it seems every time i have plans to work on the 50, my sonoma gets jealous and acts up, forcing me to go work on it. I have all the parts to bag the frame and have it ready to set the body on. Thats where im gonna run into my issues. Making all the panels line up properly, especially up front. I haven't actually touched the 50 itself. I have it sitting in the driveway, wanna get the frame ready first. There is a big cruise in this saturday night from 6-9pm at ashley furniture in Fultondale AL. Lot of nice stuff, its always huge. You should come check it out. Ill have my sonoma there.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
I may do that. The more i think about this truck the more I want some free time to go dig it out...

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
So guess what i have decided to do. I just won a set of floor pans for a 47-55 chevrolet on ebay. Guess that means I have to dig that truck out and not rob it for parts. I will be starting another build in the near future. I also am working on getting a new beltline fabbed up so I can take care of that issue. I am sure I will be looking into more sheet metal as soon as she is out and cleaned up.

yea i was looking at a factory frame for this one. It has a frame on it but it is buried so it is probably junk.

Re: Look what we found behind my wifes family barn
Britnjc, if you need any help on the floor pans let me know. I bought a 51, 1/2ton, and a new remade complete floor pan and welded it in. So I replaced the whole floor brand new and could give you some tips, if you need it, etc.
