Engine paint, or am I just too cheap to pull the engine?
Guys, the paint on my engine is now about 4 or 5 years old, and seems to be wearing thin, especially on the front of the cylinder heads. Question is, should I remove accessories mask and paint, or do I pull the engine and spray it on a stand etc.etc?
I am also looking to replace the headers, has anyone found a set with good clearance for the wires and plugs? Cheers Richard

I always touch up my engines with a small paint brush. Just spray the paint into the cap and brush it on! If you're going to paint the entire engine, just pull the accessories off and shoot it in the compartment.

This was done still in the truck. I removed the intake along with everything else that is not orange. Took quite a bit of labor, but I was digging into it anyways.

Nothing wrong with freshening it up where it sits. If you drive a vehicle, it's only a matter of time until you have to touch up or repaint the engine. You should try keeping a 409 looking clean and new. It collects dust like a dust magnet!
Unless your real "anal" about things, leave it where it is.

Hedman makes a header for 67-72 trucks, the clearance and wires are good, the only prob i have with them is the 3rd sparkplug on the left side of the truck under brakes booster is kinda a pain. but all else is great.
feel free to touch up the engine!!

When masking things off, remember tht alluminum foil will cover things like sway bars and it is way easier than paper and tape.

Yeah, I am pretty good with the Krylon Unfortunately the headers don't look that good any more. Ceramic is the only way to go.

Another solution is get another engine paint it up and then it only takes a day to pull an engine and put a new one in. As long as you keep the same general block BBC or SBC. Just my idea is when I work on my truck I go full out!

Painted mine as it sits. The machine shop was so behind schedule they didn't have time to paint it...so I taped off everything and went for it. It's easier when when you do everything black, though.

Something that gives it a more complete look is if you paint the bolt heads black. If you scroll back up to the pic of my engine, you'll see that most of the bolts are orange...by painting them black, it looks more liek a real rebuild instead of a Krylon rebuild.
