sparkplug boot blues

Bought a set of summit headers for my son's 68 chevy lwb 283 3-speed over the summer. They fit fine except the #3 sparkplug is too close to the header pipe. The 90 degree boot touches the pipe and burns. Would the short Accel plugs work? How much shorter are they? We need at least 1/2 inch or 3/4 would be better. Happy Holidays, Thanks, Jeff.

Re: sparkplug boot blues

I run the shorter ACCEL plugs on my 383 stroker motor in my 84 truck and have been doing so for along The different length makes up for the header and the ACCELS work just fine, just make sure you look at the heat ranges as you purchase them. Go to their website for more info.

Re: sparkplug boot blues

Put one of the good heavy woven plug wire sleeves over that boot between the boot & header.

Re: sparkplug boot blues

I was having the same problem w/the headers on my truck burning into the plug wire boots. I took the suggestions from many of the guys here on the board and installed the Accel Shorty Plugs......it made all the difference in the world! Haven't had any problems since.

Re: sparkplug boot blues

I run the accel plugs and a set of MSD wires. I haven't had any burning issues for a long time, but the covers will work also.
