Question Another header thread- for vortec heads

I have a 98 tahoe motor (vortec 350) for my 70 lwb, planning on puttingin the 6 psosition, anybody got suggestions for headers- long or short is fine just so long as they fit. Truck is a 3 speed manual on the floor.

Do you think headers for the tahoe would work? - They are kind of pricey, cheapest I have found with ceramic coating was about 320.

I bought headers for my Z-71 (5.7 liter Vortec) and was able to get ceramic coated for like less than $200 due to overstocking. I got them from STILLEN.COM. They fit great and I never had any issues with them. Silver coating looked great the day I sold it. And they were the short ones and hugged the block pretty tightly, which should leave you plenty of room to make up your exhaust system.

Vortec heads use the same exhaust manifolds or headers as any other small block head.
Buy headers for your truck, don't worry about the Vortecs.

I have a set of Hooker Competition Headers for '70 PU with a manual trany. They fit great and tuck under the cross member with about 1/8-3/16' to spare.

I had hedman hedders on my 71 with vortecs but it was in the 8 cyl position! They fit pretty decent!

Motor only:
6.44 1/8 @ 104.13
10.39 1/4 @ 125.83

Nitrous Times:
5.785 1/8 @ 118.65 with a 1.336 60ft
9.168 1/4 @ 142.58 with a 250 shot dead out of the hole!

I have dynomax headers on my 71. They are jet hot coated and fit good. Just be sure to get the copper ultraseal gaskets......oh yea....they are about 200 bucks cheaper than hooker ceraminc coated, and the same price as the painted hooker heads for our trucks.

Vortec heads have a "D " shaped port that would be better suited for the "D" shaped Header. I have a set of Hooker's on my truck that have that shape. I dont drive the truck yet, but the motor that i am building, will have the Vortec heads, so I am getting the exhaust ready for that. I had to reshape the one tube that will hit the frame mount. I reshaped it with a press, so I didn't loose any volume.

Only Fastburn heads...

Only the fastburn aluminum heads have the D exhaust port. Standard cast iron Vortec heads are just a conventional port and, like Blazer1970 said, just buy them for your year truck. I rewoked a set of std port shorties to work on my Fastburns D ports but it's alot of welding and grinding!
