Headache or Head Job
I have a 69 chevy with a 307 2 barrel carb that needs a head job. My Son-in-law gave me a good set of 350 heads. will these work on my 307,and if so will they affect preformance in any way.( good or bad ) He also has a 4 barrel carb and intake from same engine I would like to use. The 350 is from a 1984 chevy pickup. Thanks, RJ

Well, the last time I gave my 307 a head job, I got my valves burnt - LOL
Seriously though, the 307 probably has 68-70 cc chambers and the 350 likely has 76 cc chambers which would lower your compression, and if you repalce the factory steel shim gaskets with common rebulder thicker gaskets you will lower your compression even more. 307 was rated at about 9.0 compression and you could easy drop it down to 8.0 compression with above parts. Not the best combo, but it would run, the larger 1.94 intake will not be a problem though. And you would have hardened exhaust seats. I spent way to much rebuilding my 307 heads, new guides, hardened ex seats new ex valves, new valve springs, cleaned and surface planed. Around $300 several years ago, World products has a 67 cc head that would work nice if you have the cash. Some casting numbers from the heads would tell the story for sure. Try www.mortec.com for head info.

A great head for the 307, and dirt cheap, is the 305 head. You should be able to get a whole engine for nothing to next to nothing and swap the heads then you can crush the 305, or try to pawn it off on someone else.

try...haha, he said try!!
I would not suggest the intake & carb from the 84. the calibration on the carb is a PIG & the intake isnt much better. hit the boneyards for a set-up from something pre-emmision or go aftermarket.
