Exhaust tips

On my Blazer Im getting new exhaust and was wondering how much does the sound of your truck change do to the size and/or shape of the tips. Im running 2 1/2 pipe and going out the back at the corners. A buddy says I should get 3 1/2 retangular tips. Says they sound really good. He like things loud though.

I have been told ( and believe it now) that because the motion of exhaust pulses is circular (due to the manifold pipes), by changing tips (shape) it does have an impact...now...I had some cool ovals on my 71..it sounded okay...kinda raspy...I took them off and went to straight pipes that can't be seen...it ounds much better but I don't think due to the tips.

I have always had good sounding systems with ovals and larg slant cuts. I had square cut tips and they sounded bad...but it could have been in part to the muffs. Go check a car or truck out with the tips on similar to your liking.

Larger diameter is definitely louder...especially the longer the tip gets.
