Disc mix and match facts?

I have a 76 c20 complete front suspension. I have searched for a while and some say it is possible to use the upper balljoint from the 76 on my 64 while the lowers wont work because of the saddle. There is some mention of the 76 balljoint possibly fitting the 64 LCA if the hole is opened slightly. There are never any numbers/dimensions or confirmations. I am hoping to get some real facts. Please let me know if I missed this somewhere else. The upper is shown. working on removing the lower tomorrow.

Upper BJ mounting bolt dimensions are the same (I have C30 upper BJ's in a set of arms that were removed from my 68 C10).

Lower BJ's are different between C10's & C20/30's. As you noted, they are a larger OD where they press into the arm.

That being said, I've never heard of anyone "opening the hole slightly" to allow swapping them in. It would seem that doing something like that would definitely weaken the formed lip it seats in. I can't say factually that it will/won't be safe; but it doesn't seem like a good idea.

What am I missing here. They (lbj) measure the same. Edit: just read that you said c10 to 20. I'm looking 64 c20 to 76 c20

64 C20 & 76 C20 parts will interchange.

I'm not certain on C20 drum to disc swaps, but on C10's the BJ's are different. I would research the p/n for upper/lower 64 C20 & 76 C20 BJ's to see if they're the same or different for the answer.

Well, update. I got the ball joints pressed in correctly the second time around. Waiting to either powdercoat or por 15 the spindles. Also waiting for my tie rod adapter to be finished up. Just finished drilling the upper holes for the bag mount and broke a bit off -awesome-. And lastly the steering and bump stop got cut out and I need to decide how i want to do it.

popped the rivets. not easy for some reason. two smashed fingers later

So I have been in a huge stagnant period due to my own laziness and waiting for parts. I got a 5/8-18 LH tap and ended up turning an adapter shaft. Got it home and the runout on the lathe must have been worse than I thought because the threads were way loose on the 5/8 side. the 11/16 side was perfect. I said screw it and was going to buy the adapter sleeves here

I asked them and they said they are only 5-5/8" long for the 64. This is about half of what I need. Its even shorter than the original one. I came up with roughly 11.5" which has plenty of thread engagement.

What am I missing here...

I just read to use the 65-70 outers as my inners on the 64. Is the length about 7.4 inches on these.

second I read that the 72 el camino brake line will adapt my caliper to my existing 64. input?

anyone help with anything.
