transmission issues and no tissues
my transmission is crying... tranny fluid tears...
Looks like a Muncie 3 speed based on the cover, but the tail shaft doesn't look right to me, hopefully someone can confirm... tried to get all the numbers in pictures but may have missed one or two... Really I have no idea what the PO did to this truck, but he said he had the floor shift added when the 3 on the tree stopped working and was not rebuildable. I think the resistance i feel when shifting first and reverse (when the ebrake is on) is the allthread that is rubbing. It also looks like the rubber seal on the clutch? on the bellhousing is gone, it isn't actually rubber anymore, or sealing anything... also looks like a leak from tail shaft, on the speedometer gear? maybe... dont know much about these trannies. So, should i bother keeping or rebuilding this transmission? I don't particularly enjoy having only 3 speeds, and have been thinking about an auto swap for a while now. I know there is a bit more to a swap than just the tranny, but if I need to pull it and rebuild, i may as well explore an upgrade... what would you do? discuss: |

Re: transmission issues and no tissues
Like Smitty, I (and many of my friends) have switched from 3 speed to automatic and never looked back. Of course, everyone will say "it's your ride, build it how you want" and they are right.

Re: transmission issues and no tissues
on CL i saw someone selling rebuilt 700s for $1200... $1000 for the tranny +$200 for a core. down the street from me figuratively.
https://sacramento.craigslist.org/pt...269211689.html will need to do more research on the fitment and additional purchases. I saw the previous conversations about swapping and while i get that it will be more expensive and potential issues, i really hate shifting through 3 gears with grinding reverse lockout... |

Re: transmission issues and no tissues
Fix your linkage.
Put a slight bend in the 2-3 rod enough to clear the 1st/reverse arm. You might need a little heat on it to help bending it. |
