distributor as oil pump primer
I know that this has been asked before and I've seen the posting but I have been unable to locate it... Can someone please send me the/or a link that describes how to modify an old distributor so I can use it to pre-oil my new 350?
Thanks! |

I've got one, but no pics. Will try and get one later when the war dept. gets home, so I can use her camera. Easy to do. Don't remember seeing a post on this? Musta missed that one?

I have used a large screwdriver with the handle removed, and chucked into my drill. It is not hard to use if the engine is out on a stand. If the engine is in the truck it is hard to hold it centered. The old distributor is the best way to go.

Its easy, I made one from an old points distributor. All you do is remove the gear by removing the drive pin and puilling the gear off. I ground off the weights and rotor attaching points with a grinder. Grind it down as round as you can get it and small enough to get it to fit in a 1/2" drill or smaller if you only have a 3/8" drill.

just pull alll the guts out so so you can chuck it with a drill.
I did this probaly 20 years ago dont have it any more somebody thought it was junk and threw it away . so write on it or something, you could pull the shaft and have it turned down. 100th post woohoo!!! Last edited by bigskiohio; 04-26-2004 at 08:20 PM. |

Thanks for all the replies! I found an old distributor at the yard this past weekend. Once I grind off the weights how do I remove the plate that the points are attached to? Do I just pry it off with a screw driver?
Thanks again... |

You have to cut the entire top section off the distributor. (Remove shaft first). I have one exactly like the pics that Mark posted, works great!
