my 454 swap is done
heres how i did my 454 swap in my 68, since alot of questions are asked about what people use ill try to help as much as possible, this setup worked for me but your truck maybe a little different.
I started with 67-71 bb mounts, i made square washers as per http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=122645 this allowed me to run the cheap small block rubber mounts i had on the engine i took out, i have a th 400 tranny behind my big block so i bought a tranny mount from gmc paul, http://www.gmcpauls.com/SALE_SPECIALS.htm its the new style tranny mount, the stock one will work, i did have to drill holes in the frame for this mount. the headers i used were http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku , now, my frame was an early 68 frame so they are a little different from the later frames, 67 and some 68 frames did not have an indention for the poower steering box and clearance for a big block, i just needed to trim a little for the headers to clear the top frame rail, my truck is on bags and these headers fit great, they do no hang down below the frame, i did have to get a bosch 3322 oil filter, its a really short filter, all the other i tried hit the header. i cant really tell you the lenght of a drive shaft you will need as mine has a 9 inch ford rear end. the radiator is a 4 core set up i got from manes http://www.manestruckparts.com/store...Category_ID=19 they were at a swap meet so i bought it there, im running a http://www.oldairproducts.com/shop/a...articles_id=14 i had to take these all apart and cut them up to clear the water pump pulley, if i had gone with a short water pump i think i would have had plenty of clearance, but it fits and looks good. Im sure i missed something, and ill be happy to answer any questions i can, this worked for me and i hope i helps someone else. |

Re: my 454 swap is done
This is truely an inspiration. I want to get another truck and do something like that.
>>Is it going to get inner fenders? What happens when you drive through mud etc? >>Maybe I missed it in an earlier thread but what's the engine config? Dyno tested? Need more info!

Re: my 454 swap is done
I started making that inhaling vacuum sound at the first pic... and then as I scrolled down, it got worse.... oooohhhhhhh.... I keep walking by my 454 sitting in the shop - If I spent 1/50th of the time trying to get it in as I do talking about it, I'd still be 1/50th of where you are now.... Veeeery nice.
That's it! I need more natural areas in my yard.... I spend too much time mowing.........
