need to adjust gearshift lever
My gearshift lever (automatic) is way past park. Is there anyway to adjust this. I have adjusted all the slop out of the linkage under the hood. Is there anyway to move the mechanism that locks it into park etc... TIA

Re: need to adjust gearshift lever
Look at the shift rod near the column. There is a nut on a piece that bolts to the rod. Loosen the nut, put your trans and shifter in neutral, tighten the nut. you may have to do this a couple of times, to get it to your liking.

Re: need to adjust gearshift lever
Down at the bottom of the shifter rod, where it connects to the linkage that pushes through the shift mech on the side of the transmission - is an adjustment on some models. You merely leave the transmission in park, move the linkage up or down the rod until you get it to the length that you wish it to be and then tighten the jam nut so it won't move.
If it is wore out - replace what ever is worn out. I would also suggest that you buy a Vintage Motor Auto Repair Manual for 1970 It also has in it the K/5 Blazer which shared all mechanical parts with the K/10 pick up truck. |

Re: need to adjust gearshift lever
Thanks guys, adjustment makes sense.
I have an original service and parts manual somewhere....just can't quite remember where. When I was younger I bought out a dealer going out of business. Got about 200 manuals, I have kept them all just don't know where they are when I need them. |
