One Piece Window Billet???

Hey Everyone!

Awesome board!! Anyway I have a question about Brothers one piece window, I just got my kit, (it's still on sale, but now $250) and the triangle piece is sheetmetal. Brothers web site has it listed as "small billet filler panel can be painted body color or left uncoated for an even more custom look". Maybe I don't know what billet means, does a it's a single piece of bent sheet metal qualify? I can't believe that they say leave it uncoated for a custom look....

Anyone else have these windows and what did you recieve with yours? I have attached a picture, but it didn't capture the material very well.

Re: One Piece Window Billet???

The term Billet has become widely misused in the aftermarket community to describe anything made from aluminum.

Technically, the part is cut from a solid piece (a billet) of metal, as opposed to being cast. This is typically achieved by the use of CNC machining. The part shown above appears to be a piece of flat stock, that has been bent (probably with a brake), which should not be considered billet.

here are a few definitions that Merriam Webster lists.
Billet:
a: a bar of metal
b: a piece of semifinished iron or steel nearly square in section made by rolling an ingot or bloom
c: a section of nonferrous metal ingot hot-worked by forging, rolling, or extrusion
d: a nonferrous casting suitable for rolling or extrusion

Nope. These are for the truck. I think I'm gonna try the 'other' brand on the Blazer...

Re: One Piece Window Billet???

Okay, my bad... the piece is aluminum, not sheetmetal. It just needs to be polished up.

Guess I shouldn't be opening things and freakin out when I stop at HH on the way home first, clouds my judgment some times.

So you get pulled over:

Driver "why do you ask? Is there a fat girl in the back seat"? Larry the Cable Guy

Re: One Piece Window Billet???

I just orderd these. I got the power window kit. Couldn't pass up the $200 in savings. Also the lowering coils wre about 40% off so I got those for later. So how is the kit working for you? And Mike Nutt where did you find those mirrors?
