Difference in front end parts?
Is there a difference in parts in the front end between a 1983 c10 and a 1984 3/4 ton Suburban? (Ball Joints, Control Arms, Tie Rods, Pitman Arm ect) Reason I ask is I can get a pretty good deal on almost new entire front end from a 3/4 ton Suburban but I want to make sure the parts are going to work on my c10. My truck has drop spindles and 1.25 brake rotors...it used to be a diesel truck.
I looked on summit and it does list diffent part numbers for a c10 vs a c20 suburban but I was alway under the assumption that all 2wd front end parts for these 73-87 were generaly interchangeable. Thanks for your help!!!! Last edited by ChrisC10; 10-07-2013 at 10:43 AM. |

Re: Difference in front end parts?
No.
A arm's will interchange. With 3/4t spindles. bushings ball joints will not with 1/2t parts.

Re: Difference in front end parts?
So the A-Arms are the same but all the parts wont work. I would need to change out the ball joints from c20 to c10 parts. For $100 dollars though I might just go get it for the control arms so I can rebuild those and just switch them out with the ones on my truck. I can always sell the c20 stuff if it's as new as he says it is.
Thanks for the reply! |

Re: Difference in front end parts?
No exactly. The 3/4 t a arms and spindles will bolt in place of. Not interchange.
Bushings and ball joints are different.

Re: Difference in front end parts?
Oh...so I couldn't use my spindles with these a-arms. I through I could use ball joints and bushings to basicaly convert the 3/4 ton a-arms to 1/2 ton ones and then use my drop spindles with them. Maybe I was wrong assuming that. Thanks!

Re: Difference in front end parts?
If you want to switch your truck over to 8 lug buy them. If not don't waste your money. The ball joints do not interchange between the lower control arms. There for they are useless for a 1/2 ton truck.

Re: Difference in front end parts?
Just so I'm clear....even the control arms are differnt? I don't care about the ball joints and other parts that are for a 3/4 ton. I couldn't take those control arms and put new 1/2 ton ball joints in them and use them with my spindles?
