Can I replace or grind this hub off?

Hey guys,

I just got a set of 20" Torq Thrust rims and it fits perfectly in the front but the rear has that hub that sticks out that doesn't fit with the diameter center of the rims. I would assume that part is to keep the rim centered.

Can I just grind this off or is there a way I can find a smaller size hub to make it fit?

Seeing balance is important with moving parts I wouldn't recommend grinding on it as it would throw your axle all out of balance. You may be able to pull the axles and take them to a machine shop though and have them turn them to correct diameter.

Would not grind the hub off the axle. Take your wheels to a machine shop and get the holes drilled out to fit the axle.

I had the same thing when I bought my truck with 22" Lorenzo's on it. What PO did was backs had 2" wheel spacers and they also put shorter wheel studs to clear the spacers. That's one way but not a real good way. Axles need to be in balance and so do Wheels. Ether change out your rear end to something "newer" that doesn't have that problem or Heaven for bid change those wheels. Some thing has to give.... tough call

i got such a good deal on these torq thrust and it was a 6 lug! its so hard to find 6 lugs for a good deal thats why! ugh

that sounds like a good idea. I wonder how much that would cost? anyone have any ideas?

I too would modifferent the wheels. Someday you will change them, and the axle will no longer center the new wheels.

anyone have any idea how much a machine shop would charge for something like this? the difference in size is about 1/2" so its not too bad of a grind off on the wheel.

its a sunday so they are all closed today, i am a little curious to see how much this would cost

Probably need to open up your wallet WIDE.

You need that hub size to center the brake drum also.
If you have room for a spacer, I would go that route.
Custom billet wheel manufacturers will build the center bore of the wheel to your specs or there allowed sizes.
But off the shelf 6-lug wheels intended for the 1999-2016 trucks is where you run into this problem.
Make sure the cast center of that wheel has enough meat to it, because the wheel manufacturer is not going to be liable if they fail after machining by you.

thanks man. I ended up ordering a set of 1" spacers. hopefully it doesn't change the stance too much and i hope it should clear everything else.

I'm running 1" billet wheel spacer in the rear with modern GM wheels and it works great. Just remember to re torque the spacer lug nuts after the fist 50 miles or so.

Good custom wheel shops can bore that wheel , there's one by me that actually drills center & lug holes per vehicle. Was pretty cool to watch.
