anybody running the edelbrock 2101 manifold and 1406 carb?

I will be installing the 1406 performer carb on top of my 2101 performer intake.(which looks to me like a spread bore intake) can I install the carb directly onto the intake or do I need an adaptor plate with this setup. thanks!

Edelbrock has a little flat plate that I believe you will need to use. It basiclly covers up a small sliver of the secondary holes on the intake. With the carb on the intake look real close. It is easy to miss.Last one I bought was like 10bucks. Sometimes the gasket will cover it but it has to be the thicker one. .

You can but be careful as there is enough slop in the mounting to allow the carb to move forward or rearward. This can cause the carb secondary plates to just barely catch on the intake when fully opened. Likewise if you don't get the carb real secure to the intake. And yes I went thru a redlight doing 65 mph in a 30. It will take you by complete surprise when it hangs up. To correct I just added a spacer.

My son was in his 68 was following me too. I pulled over and disconnected the secondarys. Just wanted you to know that yes you should put something between the two to be on the safe side. I think from heat expansion allowed just enough shift in the carb for interference. As the carb only been on there for 600 miles or less.

I'm running this setup, and just used a thin felpro gasket in between. With the carb bolted down, how can it move backwards or forward? How thick of a gasket are you using?

Here is the gasket I bought

I picked up a an adaptor plate, which is about 1/16" thick to be on the safe side. fits good.

Re: anybody running the edelbrock 2101 manifold and 1406 carb?

I just took my carb off to check and it looks like the only area it may touch is the middle piece that runs between the opening. There looks to be a lot of space on the front and back. It also looks like the secondary’s come down about 1/2 inch when they are open. With that it seems as though I would need a spacer at least 1/2 inch thick??
