Different Type Of Vintage Wheel

I found these aluminum spoke wheels this weekend and they grew on me enough to buy them. Now this style of wheel probably won't appeal to most of you,but they have a certain appeal to me. They aren't a favorite of mine and they don't go back as far as the others I like for nostalgia,but they are nostalgic and certainly not something you'll see on other trucks. IMO,I like them more than about anything available today,but I'm old school. I like things just because they are from "back then". I like them more with how the guy made rally wheel centers work with them. You usually saw them on 4wds,just like white or chrome spokes,and to me they are a world apart from the steel ones. I actually hardly cared for them back then because I was so stuck on slots for aluminum wheels. Same goes for Vectors and such. I'd love to find some 8-lug 9.75s for my '72 4wd. Anyway,here they are. What do you think?

The centers make all the difference in the world and I don't recall ever seeing these in aluminium.

I always hated the white or chrome "wagon wheels" but these are in a different league, I would run 'em too. Never see someone else with the same thing.

Me either. Thay are pretty rare as far as I can tell. Tim, who made them?

I'll see if they say anything on the back. I think LockDoc's are yet another company. The spokes seem to have a bow to them and my wheels seem pretty straight. I think they were readily available,but most got the chrome for flash and they would have been cheaper. It seemed back then most hadn't realized yet that chrome wheels end up more rust than anything and didn't appreciate the benefit of aluminum alloy. These never had a full on polish to them. I guess those who wanted aluminum wheels wanted something that didn't look like a common white spoke painted silver. Who knows,but they were never seen all over the place,like finned/finned aluminum and slots. These are "take a second look" kind of cool. You could glance and look away,but if you look enough you see them in a different way. There's definitely a good visual effect when they roll. The open area is larger than the steel ones...except Jackmans.

That's because I'm old and obscure Tim, and I save everything... Those came on the White '67 shortie when I bought it in 2004.

I like driver trucks and slapping something like this on would go just right for that "not trying real hard/just driving it" look. I believe we have a member with a nice set of these on his yellow Stepside. May even be a GMC. I feel bad I can't recall his name,but he's a Canadian member,the truck has a good rake to it,it's a yellow like Wheatland w/White top. It's a really sweet truck.

Ok,these are different now that I see a big picture (and it's been a long time). His has 6-spokes and these are the more typical 8-spoke,too.

A buddy of mine had those on his F-150 after we got out of high school. I had the white painted version.

I really hate it though that stuff that I remember from that time is now considered nostalgic.

I love those! ...and I can appreciate they are special because they are NOT chrome or white steel. Are they 'Jackman' wheels? I built all my chevy truck model kits with those when I was a kid. Yes too bad they're not 6 or 8 lug - they look great on a 4x4.

Not sure what kind they are,but not Jackmans. Jackman spokes went directly into the rim. Th3ere was no solid perimeter to the center. Don't worry things from the '90s are nostalgic and next it'll be into the 21st century. Styles change which makes what was once popular nostalgic before it's time.

Not sure what my plans are. My only 5-lug is a project going nowhere fast. I already have one type of wheel for that and had others in mind as alternates already. I'll just let them marinade for now. If I pick up a C/10 I'll have these waiting. I always keep my options open. I have a thing for obscure older style wheels anyway.

I can see where this is going.Tim is a lot like me about nostalgia stuff and seems to have a lot of the same values.So I figure he is about to do one of the things on my(and maybe his) "Bucket List".Take a set of wheels and build a ride around them......

^^ That is always a possibility,for sure. The '67 GMC I'm building started out with a front clip I bought hoping a friend would want it,but had sold the truck by the time I let him know I had it. Now it is being built around all sorts of parts I already had.
I'm sitting on a '71 350/TH350 for that special Chevy car of truck roller out there I haven't found yet.


I decided to buy these with the intention of offering to give these to someone I know. I'm not sure he'll like them. He's a friend's son who has a '72 longbed he restored on his own. Dad coached or lent an extra hand,but did none of the work himself. The young feller doesn't even drive yet. It has stock wheels and I know he was looking for some rallyes. He is on a tight budget,his own,and I felt bad I had sold a set of 8" I had before I knew he was looking. He just told me last weekend he now wants to lower it and I'm hoping he'll agree these would really add to that. We'll see. You know how kids are ,they may or may not like what the older one's do. His dad is old school and that has rubbed off for sure. But,you never know to what extent or when they'll jump out from under the wing and have totally different ideas of their own. One thing's for sure...if he likes them,they're his. If he doesn't,that's cool and I'll probably end up with them on an "easy pickup"
