Which adapter plate for an Edelbrock 1405?

Hi there,

This question has probably been answered already but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know which adapter plate exactly do I need to mount an Edelbrock 1405 on a Goodwrench 350 (not sure the year, but probably 80s)? Itīs in a 1970 C20. It currently has a Q-jet. Thanks a lot.

You'll probably want something like a Jegs p/n:555-15440.
www.jegs.com
You have the stock GM intake?

Well first off what intake are you running stock, edel. Holley in my world you might as well throw the stock cast manifold in the dumpster. Find a used edelbrock performer and a #9266 spacer or similer I run a 1 spacer on my 69 cause it was getting heat soak.

Re: Which adapter plate for an Edelbrock 1405?

Thanks a lot for your replies. I don't answer right away due to the time difference (I'm in Europe).
Everything is stock in my truck. Both the Jegs and the Summit plates you suggest are with one single big opening, I though I needed a plate with the 4 holes, but I'll go with one of these two.
Kaycee, I will think of your tip on intake manifold, that might be a near future move (anything I buy costs me double due to shipping+tax).

I just read something a custormer from Jegs wrote: the Edelbrock manual specifically stated not to use this adapter for this application (open square hole).
???????

Don't panic. I run the Offenhauser* model on top of a Weiand 8004 aluminum intake and a 1/2'' 4-hole Micarta composite spacer under a Carter AFB [the original Edelbrock Performer] on a Mr.Goodwrench 350 Chevy V8 in a '71 GMC Jimmy [Like the Chevy K/5 Blazer]. Runs good.
I tune my Carter [600 CFM] 9625S like an Edl-1405. I use the chart in the Edelbrock Owner's manual.
* The Offy Spreadbore/Squarebore adapter is the same as the Jegs/Summit offerings, but was made in the USA about 20 years ago, and was not expensive when purchased. Adding a Micarta spacer to the stack keeps the carburetor isolated from any heat soaks from the intake. The 4 holes in the spacer are deep enough to get a concentrated air fuel mixture flowing.

I knew from your first post you were on Mallorca, so hot rod shop parts are unheard of there. I've read about the island from ''Master and Commander.'' It is situated in the Western Mediterranean, south of France and East of Spain. Was your truck left as a surplus vehicle from some Navy?
They say the climate there is nice. Now it's a tourist isle.
Good luck with your C/20 truck.

Re: Which adapter plate for an Edelbrock 1405?

Wow, Sunshine, you guys know everything. I really love being in this site,I learn a lot.
My truck came from las Vegas via the Nehterlands some 5 years ago. I drove it all the way down to Barcelona, ferry, and home. I've been to the US a lot, taching in NM a year, and crossing the US in a 75 caddy 3 years ago. I get prts online and try to have friends who live or work in the US bring them. I'm not a mechanic obviously but I do my best to fix my truck.

I desperately need the carved letters C and H from the tail gate, as they were covered after some accident I suppose. I'll post it some time in the future.

Yes, Mallorca is to Spain what Hawaii would be to the US, full of Germans and Northern Europeans in the summer, and the weather is really nice all year. Hot summers, mild winters. Like Gertrude Stein said in the 1920s, 'it's paradise if you can stand it'

Anyway, thanks a lot for your permanent help and teachings.

Congratulations. You're the first guy to quote Gertrude Stein on a Chevy Truck Forum, ever.

Re: Which adapter plate for an Edelbrock 1405?

Edelbrock makes a kit, most stores carry it. One thing I did was to use a stock thick Q-jet paper gasket on the bottom.

It most likely has saved me from a ton of Vapor Lock issues.

Had one on my truck for over 10 years now.
