Modifying Heater Controls?
During the process of some "winterizing", I had a curious thought. On my '70 (Deluxe Heater), the bottom cable operates the damper inside the heater box to divert air to pass or bypass the heater core. What if that damper was blocked closed and all the air was sent thru the heater core. Then use a longer cable to reach thru the firewall to a cable operated universal heater control valve. This would then allow you to regulate the core water temperature - "a real warm" and also completely shut-off flow during the summer.
. Is this workable?? |

Re: Modifying Heater Controls?
thats an original idea and it sounds doable. But would that give you a warm air only defog ? Not that it matters to me, because i am cold natured anyway. I am very interested in this idea and will be watching your post.

Re: Modifying Heater Controls?
I'm thinking that the defrost air also would be regulated by the control valve. I should mention that I do have an aftermarket underdash A/C, so I can always fire that up for a few minutes to help defrost!

Re: Modifying Heater Controls?
Mine I took everything out except the little steel lever on the inside that is on the heater box...it swings DEF and FLOOR...the other lever under the glove box I swing open in the winter to let the heat on...And a toogle switch on my switch panel to turn on the fan. I use HIGH on and off. Simple, no cables, nothing to ever break.
my $0.02
