Changing rear diff. gearing...how?
Hey guys,
My 72 GMC has 3.07 gears which are fine except when I want to pull something. I'd like to swap to 3.73 gears. What is involved in doing this? Obviously I don't know anything about differentials. Don't need posi but it wouldn't hurt I guess. Is this an entire rear swap or just rebuilding the gears/axles? Thanks for any help

the best complete detailed instructions with detailed step by step procedure as well as list of specialized tools required // facory service manual available from most board vendors at a very reasonable rate

Easiest way (and probably cheapest) is to find someone parting out a truck with the gear set you want. Just buy the entire axle assembly and swap it in. Watch for coil vs. leaf springs.
