Help with new 327 and original gears
I have put a 300 horse 327 in my 72 longbox c10. it has the original 3 speed tranny and original gears in the rear. will this be good enough for highway use? anyone have experience using this setup?

Re: Help with new 327 and original gears
my 350/th350 with a 3.08 did almost 3000, if its a manual it would probably do between 2500 and 2700 at 70

Re: Help with new 327 and original gears
likely 3.73 gears if it was 6cyl, 3 rower.

As far as the gearing, 3 on the column came with a 3.73 regardless if it was a small block or an inline... unless otherwise optioned. |

Re: Help with new 327 and original gears
the 327 will do fine and the 3 on the tree will be fine as for the rearend it depends on what gear is in there for interstate use or not

Re: Help with new 327 and original gears
By today`s standards, anything w/o overdrive screams at hiway speeds.Going by what these trucks were built for when new,it`ll be just fine. Will it cruise below 3,000 at 70...nope.Sounds great and I love it.I remember the new vehicles coming out with o/d and thinking what a gutless droan they made.Times have changed, that`s for sure.

Re: Help with new 327 and original gears
you can run a little taller tire on stock wheel, an allterrain 30X9.50 and run 65mph just fine
