4l80e trans in K10 - Transfer Case Adaptor - Tone Ring ??’s
Swapping 2004 lq4 with 4l80e trans into my ‘72 K10 w/ 350/TH350 and NP205 transfer case. Advance Adapters makes a kit to mate the 4l80e to the NP205 transfer case. However, AA says the 4l80e will require a tone/reluctor ring install - which sounds like a pain in the a$$. Is there any way around the tone ring installation?

I’m trying to avoid the tone ring install. Is it possible to use the transfer case from the donor ‘04 vehicle? And then eliminate the tone ring issue altogether?

Nope the drop is on the wrong side. Unless you can find a 91 crew cab 205 that came behind a factory 80e (hens teeth) in order for it to work correctly your going to need the tone ring. I’ve seen where some guys run a manual valve body and ditch the tone ring but that isn’t ideal to say the least. The factory computer shouldn’t be a problem if you get the tone ring setup.

Re: 4l80e trans in K10 - Transfer Case Adaptor - Tone Ring ??’s
I will be doing the same swap LQ4/4L80E in my 72K2500. Try to find a 205 from a square body that had a th400 in front of it, they are hard to find but that the ticket. I got lucky and found one and it's a direct bolt up. The 4L80E is a th400 with overdrive and the bolt pattern on the tail and spline count are the same. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong

Re: 4l80e trans in K10 - Transfer Case Adaptor - Tone Ring ??’s
If you get a stand alone controller you don't need the tone ring in the t-case. You can program it to use the rear speed sensor in the trans. If no sensor in the transmission you'll have to install one. Worst case is no tone ring internally. If that is the case, then you'll have to have a trans shop put one in

I thought I remembered that but I wasn’t sure. I knew something was different.
