Unhappy My Trans Blew UP!!!

Reverse went out in my transmission the other day! It's a 3 speed saginaw... I was backing up then went to pull out of the spot and it didn't go. That is no fun... OH MY. I have found one local for pretty cheap, i am pretty certain and think that I am going to go get it tom. And try and get it in the truck... We will see.

Re: My Trans Blew UP!!!

YEARS ago I got mine stuck in mud... tried to rock it back and forth, almost had it out in Reverse... then BAM! Reverse blew and took 1st gear with it.

Good luck on the replacement.

Re: My Trans Blew UP!!!

Is it a 3 on the tree or has it been moved to the floor? I had a floor kit in mine and lost reverse on it. Turns out it was the shift linkage and not the trans at all...

Re: My Trans Blew UP!!!

For sure check the linkage.
You have a pretty nice set-up there, why not get a 4spd (non-truck) in there? If you are staying with a 3-spd,make sure it's the heavy duty one that came on all 4wd trucks and 2wd trucks with 350 or 396 engine option.

Re: My Trans Blew UP!!!

I don't have the monies for a better trans... I found one here local for $50, not sure if its hd or not...

What was wrong with it was that The shaft that holds the reverse idoler(sp) broke in half where the clip goes, and the cast-iron that holds it broke. I am in the process of getting the new one in. I have to get the clutch aligned back up... hoping that i dont have to pull the bell housing and the clutch plate to get it back together. Then after that hope the trans will slide in, then bolt it back in.

Its been converted to a floor shifter, I knew it was not the likage. I have pics I will post when I have time. I have to work this weekend. I will proablally get it back Monday. I work this weekend, in the ER, 12hrs shift. So probally not after work.

Cool Re: My Trans Blew UP!!!

I was backing up. I may have over goosed it, not sure. Then when I backed up again, it wouldn't go. I took the side cover off and saw the busted shaft for the reverse idoler.

Last night I managed to get the clutch aligned and got the bushing back into the crank. Then I managed to get the trans back in and alighned back in place, amazingly. I was so stinkin happy! Then I got the bolts back in, even better! So happy! Today I am back at work. Hopefully today my wife will be able to get the new transmission mount for me today... Then I can get the cross member back on and the drive shaft then I am good!!!

Re: My Trans Blew UP!!!

Well Satuday my wife got the wrong one, I took the old one off and sent her back up there with the old one. She got the right one! Then when I got home at 7pm, I got under there and got the cross member in and tight! Then got the drive shaft in. Then I went for the infamous test drive. All went well! It was so nice to have reverse again! Second gear was a little loud, but that was the one with rust on the gears. It quited down some, and that was only after driving for like 2 miles. It shifted better and easier than the old one. Thats alaways good. The gears and syncros had less wear that the old one. And the gear arms had a lot less wear. So I got a good one I suppose. We will see. I should figgure out how to drain the fluid after a little while to get the junk out of it, LOL
