Bell Housing Cross Member

I'll admit to this being a stupid question, but I really don't know.

Does anyone have a photo of the cross member or frame mounts that the bell housing would attach to? I need to know what I'm looking for. I'm assuming it's a cross member, but maybe it's not???

Thanks for helping with such a stupid question.

Re: Bell Housing Cross Member

there should just be a transmission crossmember and crossmember that the engine bolts to. the bell housing doesn't need to be bolted to anything other than the engine and trans. I've never heard of a bell housing crossmember, unless I've just been living under a rock for the past 19 years.

That's the thing, my 4-speed doesn't have a boss for the transmission cross member and the 3-speed that's currently in there doesn't either. There's actually a u-bolt holding the tail stock of the transmission in location, sort of. I can get a BH with mounts from a C30, but he doesn't have that chassis anymore.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. Photo is from the thread on installing a T5 Camaro transmission into a C10.

Kinda answers my question on how that all fits.

I guess if I can't find the proper member, then I can look at replacing the tail piece on the transmission.

Re: Bell Housing Cross Member

that u bolt does seem very sketchy. had no idea about the bell housing cross member, guess you learn something new every day. were putting a 700r4 in ours, and went with a cpp tubular mount. just waiting on engine mount bolts to throw the engine in

Re: Bell Housing Cross Member

Here is (was) mine I had to cut it in half to remove it or I would have given it away. Im sure you could find one dirt cheap. You could post a WTB in the parts section if you were a subscribing member. mine was a 283/3ott, my 3spd had the typical rear mount boss in the tail shaft. I thought the trans xmember was missing until I figured out they only used the bell x member back then.
