If the engine is drive by wire you need to mount the gas pedal from the new truck or change it over to a throttle cable. If it was me spending that kinda time and money i would use a over drive trans so i get the best gas mileage i can.

I used the factory under hood fuse block on my swap. You will only have 3 wires to hookup to make it run.

I did the swap and used the 4l60e. I have 20's on the back and still get 17mpg. I love it. Stays below 200 degrees running temp to.

Re: converting 85 chevy to a 5.3

those of you that have done this swap including the trans, what did you do for the speedo cable? because isn't the older engine & trans using the cable while the newer one is electronic? I have been considering this swap and using the more up to date 6 speed auto in my 87 short bed with 305 & 700R4.

They sell a converter box i can't think of its name but it has a motor in it to spin the speedo cable so it works.Or the 91 crewcab used a 4l80e wonder if the gauges could be swapped over?

Re: converting 85 chevy to a 5.3

I used the gauges out of a 91 surburban cause the Speedo is electric. It works perfect up to 70 then it gets off by 5 mph.

Do you know who sales the converter? Also has anyone ever done the swap to a 6 speed auto instead of the 4 speed? If so is there any concerns with trans mounts or other issues?

Thanks

PM Shon on the board and get a price from him for a Cable-X. That's what you are looking for.
