General opinion of hood art on our trucks? Good/bad examples???

Just curious. I have inferred the negative from various posts, but would like to hear it unwashed masses...

Re: General opinion of hood art on our trucks? Good/bad examples???

since you asked, i'm personally not a big fan of hood art - always thought our trucks looked pretty good stock. seems maybe a lowered shortbed road racer (i.e. like the slalom racers you see some of these trucks decked out as) might be able to get away with it, but not much else. my 2 cents only. you'll never know til ya give it a shot - and you have. so what do YOU think of hood art? That's all that really matters.

Re: General opinion of hood art on our trucks? Good/bad examples???

When I bought my truck 12 years ago this Pink Panther mural was there. I always thought it was chreesy and was gonna get it painted over, but when i open the hood at a car show/ shine it attracts all kinds of people, old, young etc. As far as stuff on the outside of the hood my opinion is if the factory ( and they have had some cheesy stuff on hoods over the years ) didnt put it there, it shouldn't be there.

Re: General opinion of hood art on our trucks? Good/bad examples???

MY opinion is, I like any well done automotive artwork. Not to be limited to paint. On OUR trucks, rally stripes don't turn me on and shop truck paint jobs make me smile.

It is just that I had noticed no hood art. I have some ideas, and I will do what I want when the time comes.

But looking to the forum members here I am wondering if it is some sort of "desecration" (to use an overly strong word for it)?

While my rig is in a sort of Ugly Duckling stage right now, I am constantly thinking of future projects.

Always looking for as many $0.02 as possible, this is an expensive hobby

I would think most folks would say do what you want to do. Agreed ... I haven't seem many trucks with "Hood Art". Variety is the spice of life.

No art. That includes stripes. Art belongs on 1970's vans, and stripes belong on Chevelles and Camaros.

So...
Is "Door Art" (Shop Logos & similar) more acceptable?

Agreed no art or stripes. On a patina truck I think shop logos on doors look really good. There's a whole thread on that.

I'm ok with a little pin stripping but not a full on mural of flaming dolphins.

Cool Re: General opinion of hood art on our trucks? Good/bad examples???

Art is art doesn't matter where it is.
The main thing is make yourself happy not me and the rest on here. This get's me everytime when asked about stuff on here.

No hood art but fake door art is OK. Just like drop trucks with big wheels but don't cut that dash for a nice radio. It's your truck do what makes u happy man that's what it is all about.
Already Gone,
I agree it may not be something I would have wanted but it fits the truck theme and everyone likes artwork.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: General opinion of hood art on our trucks? Good/bad examples???

Art is in the eye of the beholder(remember a cross in a cup of urine?).I believe good taste and theme have a lot to do with it.If it fits the theme and isn't a played out theme(crybaby dolls) then it can add.My personal preference is if you're going to use art,use something that fts the theme in a small scale out of the way place. All that said I really think "Trucks are like women,if it don't look good in a black sheath dress and pearls, you can put all the lipstick in the world on a pig and it still wont look good."

I appreciate [I]all[I] the opinions shared (and now I want to paint flaming dolphins on my hood).
For the tone of this thread please keep the opinions light, no flaming as it were...

While I don't fully understand air bag suspension as a way to go, I can appreciate the effort that goes into it. What has me curious is why there is such a harsh view of feathers, rally stripes or whatever.

I would like to see a cool skull and cross bones on a hood or tailgate
