Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

I'm not real motivated, yet. But I've got the calipers and the rotors, so I'm committed. Just don't want to take my truck off the road yet to do this and have all the parts needed on hand. I'd like to do the front end at the same time, and this will only take longer to get ready.

When I get there, I'll do a mock up in card board to refine the dimensions. Unless someone else gets to it first and wants to make a few for resale. Still missing several key measurements at this point.

There's still the possibility of having to go to 16's or bigger to make these fit?

Anyone know whatever happened to "chopped 71"? Here's a line drawing after the pics he shot of the camaro brackets:

Is that the bracket dimensions for the 93-97 Camaro rear discs attached to a 12 bolt?

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

What I would like to know is, what would be the benefit of putting Camaro discs on???? The lug pattern is 4 3/4" instead of 5".
It is because they offer a parking brake??? Just asking.

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

I'm using the camaro calipers with impala ss rotors. This way I reatin the parking brake along with the 5x5 pattern.

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

67babyblue - yes, the (incomplete) dimensions are for putting 93-97 camaro calipers on a 12 bolt. I guess I should have be more specific - this is patterned after chopped 71's pics from here:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=impala+brakes

BarryB - I'd use them because of the parking brake mainly, but will be using the 94-96 caprice/impala rotors which are 5 x 5.

The brackets appear to mount on the backside of the flange, I just noticed this must be the reason for the cut-out.

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

Chopped 71 also appears to have used the Camaro rear sway, which I plan on doing also.

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

I haven't gone as far as to buy actual parts yet but I am planning on doing rear discs on my 71 burb. I have found a couple of candidates including a 76' Lincoln Continental Mark IV with a 9" rear with 5 x 5 lug pattern with rear disc brakes & a 79' Caddy DEVILLE(not seville) that has rear discs on it with built in parking brake that I am thinking of using(including the backing plates).

I know that the kits are using 80-85 Seville rear calipers with 88-91 CK bodystyle K1500 FRONT rotors redrillled for the 5 x 5 lug pattern...

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

I think Glock was working on this setup. I know he had some plates available for the impala SS setups but IIRC, they don't have a parking brake.............Jerry

Re: Rear disc brake/ Camaro calipers

Anybody looking for camaro calipers should contact Fbody Motorsports, as they stock used camaro/firebird parts, and usually have them in stock.

I ordered a set of calipers from them a year ago (upgraded my 84 camaro to 96 disk rear), think i paid 85 for the pair shipped, including the mounting brackets.

you have to give them a call, as they don't list used parts on the website, but they are always very helpful
