TH350 Problems
I have a 72 C-10 Longbed 4x4 with a 350 and a TH350. I was wondering if the tranny is completely useless because when you drive it you have to drive in first till about 20 shift to seond till 30-35 then up to Drive for the rest. Haven't got her to highway speeds still have to get her legal. Was wondering if the tranny is junk or if I should have it rebuilt? any thoughts or help would be appreciated

Re: TH350 Problems
You mean your having to shift it manually? It won't shift manually until you reach those speeds? Or it won't shift on it's own until you get to those speeds, if thats the case, I'd do a flush & filter first, maybe it's just needing a little love.

Re: TH350 Problems
Oh, that sounds worse, has it been sitting for awhile? any chance the governor is stuck & not allowing the springs to push out? It's easy to remove & inspect, I'm no tranny expert, just familiar with them a little.

Re: TH350 Problems
check the vac line going to the modulator on the passenger side of the tranny. Mine is liek that right now too... for the past 5 or 6 days... just been too lazy to crawl under and plug it back in.

so just climb under and look at the passenger side and there will be a place for the vac line to go? |

Re: TH350 Problems
$300!?! No offense but you got ripped off, unless its a TCI or B&M that sat for a year. I bought my th350 rebuilt with a shift kit and heavy duty sprag from a local tranny shop for $350.

Re: TH350 Problems
Yeah that same thing happened to me, if you can get your hands on a piece of steel brake line long enough you can bend it to the shape you need and connect it at both ends with vaccuum line and use some hose clamps to hold it. No more cracks in the line and it wont slip off. If I can I'll try to get some pics of it.

Re: TH350 Problems
Had the same problem with mine and it is in the process of being rebuilt right now. Pick it up tomorrow. The forward gears were fried. Had been sitting a long time, so I flushed it and found quite a bit of sludge in the pan. Degraded pretty fast once it started slipping. Good luck!!
