Gas Spillage in Corners
Obviously the first thing I did it buy a new gas cap - twice. Tried three different caps, all did the same thing
when I take a curve or a right turn, gas spills out the filler neck. WTF?

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
I had the same problem but didn't want to give up my old gas cap. So I bought a six dollar cap at Kragens and swapped the gasket.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
Have you inspected the filler neck? A lot of times they are cracked from 40+ years of gas filler nozzles being leaned on while filling the tank.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
I am having the same problem on my 1970. My problem stems from the fact that some "Jackleg" mangled the top of the neck before she was mine. There is only 1 "ear" left for the cap to grab. Has anyone ever replaced just the fill neck? If so how would I go about it?

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
The problem is a worn filler neck. You can double up the gasket, or you can use a stant locking gas cap witch seals better. Sometimes you can just back the cap off untill the dogs come out of the notches. That will hold the cap down harder, or you can replace the tank.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
Our 70' has the same problem with gas leaking out of the gas cap if its filled all the way, think I'll try the double gasket trick to see if that fixes it.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
Yep sounds like a worn neck, either new tank or double the gasket on the cap

Mine did it also, locking gas cap at a yard sale for $1. I love an old truck.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
last week i bought some 3/16" thick gasket material from the auto part store. cut out a gasket and put it over the old one and it works awesome. No more leak. The cap is tight as hell though, but its better than a gas stain on the bed and cab corner. The gasket material was $3.49 and was about 12" x 16" square

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
My 72 leaks like a sieve after a fill up too. When I take a right turn I can look in the mirror and just see dollars gurgling out of the filler neck. It's a locking gas cap, which I don't like, so I think I'll try a new one and add an extra layer of gasket in there as well. Or I could just install that Blazer tank that I ordered and have been staring at for the last few months...hmmmmm...

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
I have a 71. Do these trucks not have a vent at all? Wouldn't pressure build up inside tank? It does have a tube on yhe passenger side in the corner of cab, is this the vent? If so where does it exit the cab? Since we were on the subject, I thought I would ask.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
The gas tank on my '71 is vented through the charcoal canister that is just outside the battery in the fender. The vent goes from the tank then to the right corner of the cab and then down through the floor and then to the charcoal canister.

Re: Gas Spillage in Corners
my factory gas cap is vented their is a small hole from the inside you can suck air through it easily but cant blow throigh it very well at all. i do have the vent tube on the pass side but dont know where it gos either. i dont have a charcoal can on mine but gramps may have yanked it out.
