In order to bag the back as i plan on doing, you will most likely need a 4 link setup with a panhard rod and c-notch, valves, hoses, switch, tank and compressor. Big job= big bucks. They do have air assists for your leafsprings. Much cheaper for towing. But for that custom bag setup, it will cost you.

Unless the notch is welded and proven to be as strong as the frame section you cut out, towing is out of the question (safely) That's a BIG load for a notched frame to carry. The bags won't make you lose capacity, but a notch will do it real quick.

Good point about the notch. There must be a way to reinforce a small notch? You can drop the rear quite a bit without a notch and raise it for towing. My truck has a flip kit which i think is 6-7 inches? Without notch. And it does fine even with my 750 in the back. But thats stock leaf springs that are worn. Dont forget a good bumpstop also.

Here's a link I've been hunting for... it's from the 60-66 section, but it'll give you an idea what you need to do to tow.
Read the Whole thread, there's priceless info in there. Read all of Lakeroadsters Posts. He's the man. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=393867 Last edited by 78 Chevyrado; 01-22-2011 at 09:34 PM. |

Re: notched and bagged 2wd swb that can tow?
thanks guys def planning on a springless full frame "c" not just a flip kit notch, but im not sure how much that affects the ability to tow weight wise and if there are issues pulling on a notch? i know bags will have no issue taking the weight, as i am a small, medium duty and semi/field equipment mechanic by trade. thanks for the help keep the input coming.

the notch can be made plenty strong to tow your trailor . I am gonna 4 link my 1ton with a big notch and reuse my gooseneck and bumber hitch to pull my race car.
