tilt shift indicator question
I'd like to get a shift indicator back on my column and am having a rough time finding the parts I need. I've got a 1969 c10 with a TH350.
I'm missing the shift indicator pointer as well as the housing and PRN21 deal. I've been searching the threads all morning but have had a hard time identifying exactly what kind of column I have as well as what parts I need to buy. Per some of the other threads I've researched, I've checked out LMC but the model years and tilt/non-tilt designations don't add up. Maybe this column originally came from another vehicle? It also looks like there's a little socket in the column underneath where the indicator housing would go (second pic). PO thought this was factory tilt but I'm not so sure. Thanks for any help! |

Re: tilt shift indicator question
You can scour the junkyards for van tilt columns. New, I believe the truck shop has parts, though the indicator may be chrome. You can also check classic parts. I got my indicator through them, good quality, though it was a counterparts brand item.

Re: tilt shift indicator question
So it looks like this bit slides into the chewed-off looking pointer area:

Re: tilt shift indicator question
Yes that slides in and out as you tilt your wheel up or down. Just use a file and clean that area up and you should be fine.

Re: tilt shift indicator question
It looks like someone "serviced" the column at some point and they didn't know what they were doing because they damaged the sleeve fairly badly, it obviously needs some work and with some patience and care you can restore it back to factory original condition.
The "chrome" reproduction indicator housing I saw at LMC is plastic instead of metal like the original and I wouldn't recommend it. You can get the clear shift indicator in 3 and 4 speed. You can probably use small needle nose pliers to remove the broken pointer. Last edited by Xeen; 09-21-2015 at 06:22 PM. |
