2/4 Drop Complete C-20

Well I took the body lift off my 2WD C-20 and dropped it 2 inches in the front and 4 inches in the rear. Installed new shocks also. Definitely rides better. Previous owner definitely took some shortcuts..... Also installed new valve covers. Wondering if the 5 lug axle kits work on the C-20 trucks????

Looks good. A 2/4 on a LWB looks fabulous.

I am making myself a shop truck. Got to get some art work on the doors. Truck will be my weekend driver to car shows and car gatherings...

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

Keep the 8 lug. The 5 lug kits can be made to work on the front and new axle required for the back. If you work the truck, you will be glad for the HD rear axle.

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

Thanks! Was just debating the swap this morning. Think I am going to find me some disc brakes for the front and just continue making a solid reliable truck.

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

You should look at swapping a front end (suspension, brakes, crossmember, and steering components) from a 73-87 3/4 ton pickup or suburban. You will gain disc brakes, power steering, and a sway bar. Much cheaper than a disc upgrade kit and you only have to drill a few new holes in the frame.

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

I did a disc swap on my '70 GMC Sierra Grande. I think ball joints are same or '73 and up work on the 3/4 ton trucks?

Double check, but I think this is an easier swap than the 1/2 ton. For my swap I bought a 70 that someone had already converted then swapped those parts onto my truck so I have no idea what the donor was.

Great mod though. I just finished disc swap on 69 short step I have. Did I mention I HATE front drums for a road vehicle?

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

Very nice.

A few questions....

Did you replace coil springs for the drop?

Did you have to relocate the shock mounts?

Are the new shocks shorter?

How long did it take you to do the drop?

Nice wheels, what are they?

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

Did you replace coil springs for the drop?

I replaced the coil springs with classic performance springs I ordered through Summit Racing.

Did you have to relocate the shock mounts?

The 4 inch drop did not require me to relocate but I heard 5 inch drop is where things start to change.

Are the new shocks shorter?

Yes the new shocks are shorter and also from CPP

How long did it take you to do the drop?

Front took about 20 minutes each side... rear was about 30 total for both sides... not complicated at all.

Nice wheels, what are they?

The wheels are just regular circle track style black wheels. I got a set of stock 16's out for powdercoating right now...

Thanks, I didn't know CPP had C20 springs.

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

Ball joints are different on Rock Auto, I just checked. Most likely can replace your 1970 ones with the 1976 ball joints. Otherwise, just swap in the control arms as well.

Re: 2/4 Drop Complete C-20

To be honest the suspension on my C-20 is not that much different than what was on my 69 C-10.....

Did you have to C-Notch the frame?

C-Notch was not necessary. I heard when you get down to 5/6 inches in the back it is necessary...

Thank you! That answer is all that was holding me back from doing the 2-4 drop on my own.
