Cab Lights

Ok...I have studied the " pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights" thread and the "Tow Truck/Rollback/Hauler Pics" thread and I have not found a definitive answer on which trucks came with cab lights. Based on the photos, they were clearly not required for tow/haulers, 30's, etc. Were these an option, part of the CST package, or what?

Mine is a 69 CST-20. My grandfather bought this truck new, and growing up I was always told that when a fleet of 50 or more was purchased, one was provided with lights. Sounds like an urban legend. I am assuming these are the "marker lamps" listed on the build sheet.

Can anyone explain?

Re: Cab Lights

Pretty sure all 1-tons came with them, but they were optional on all others.

Re: Cab Lights

ICC started requiring clearance lamps on 10,000# trucks starting in '69. All '69 and newer dual rear C/30s came with clearance lamps. They were an option on all other trucks, even 67/68 C/30s. The first year '69 cab light lenses were unique. They were flat and looked like hockey pucks. From '70 till the last R/V series in '91 the lenses were what they call fireman's hat style. The pre-69 lamps where teardrop shaped Chrome metal with plastic lenses. This style was a universal style with most trucks of most brands.

Re: Cab Lights

great info Tim.

You stated "All '69 and newer dual rear C/30s came with clearance lamps. They were an option on all other trucks, even 67/68 C/30s."

Mine is a 69 CST20, not a 67/68 C/30.

Were the lamps simply an option for '69 3/4 tons?

Re: Cab Lights

Yes. Is there a SPID on the glovebox door? I'm not sure how much the option was,but probably not much at all. Figure with that option you got way more than 5 simple lights and wire. It requires an entire roof skin with special mounting pads.
