I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

71 Chevy 1/2 ton, short/fleet, 2wd

OEM and straight metal only...rust not a concern.

1. 12-bolt differential cover. FOUND

2. 402 Valve covers using the push-on rubber oil cap. FOUND

3. Paint separator moldings (wraps around the cab under rear window). FOUND

4. Original coolant overflow tank and bracket. I believe these sat on the LH side of the radiator. Reference to a stock reproduction is appreciated. MISSING IN ACTION

Note: If anyone can educate why/if there are two different "original" brackets It would be appreciated. I've seen two "originals". When mounted, one bracket is square with the bottle. For the other, the bracket slopes downward against the bottle. I'm mostly certain the one that slopes down is original. I believe both types use the same bottle. I've never seen the mounting plate for the bracket that slopes downward, so can't say they're the same.

I have thank you. It's nice, but not an improvement on what I've got.

Re: I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

What condition does the overflow tank need to be? I have one I believe ( just have to make sure I still have it) in used condition. It has the bottle and mounting bracket but is missing the cap. If interested I can dig it up and get photos this week sometime. Rod.

Well, I can refinish the bracket if the metal is straight and no rust. I believe I can locate a cap. As for the bottle, I'd be surprised if it's nice, but I imagine I can get a replacement. Let me know Rod..........Thanks

Incidentally, I'm still not 100% sure if the originals sit on the RH fender or mount to the LH side of the radiator. I believe it's the RH side of the radiator. I've looked this up, there appears to be some confusion.

Re: I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

here it is. bracket is solid and could just use a blasting and repaint. bottle is just a bit yellowed but holds fluid and is not cracked. 4th pic shows what the original cap looks like but I do not have one with it. the green cap on the bottle is not original but works. the last pic shows where it was mounted when I removed it from the truck it was on. if you want it I would do $75.00 shipped. Keep in mind it will cost me $30-$35 to ship this properly from Canada. would come thru Canada Post.

Re: I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

That MAY not be what the correct part Chewy. Below is a link to an interesting thread. See posts 5, 10, 14, 20 and 21. Apparently these were dealer, not factory installed. So there's some doubt of consistency. I can't say for certain they all used the same part. At least one recovery tank was a GM part. I've seen one on a SPID. Dealer makes the SPID? Heck, I don't know.

Any chance your SPID shows an overflow tank?

I may still be interested. Can I trouble you for the widths of? 1. mounting strap width. In other words, the width of the vertical portion of the bracket. It's probably around 2-3". Also 2. the horizontal width of the entire bracket. I'd like to confirm this fits with the radiator and core before I ponder this further.

Re: I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

Yes, some things can be really confusing. I found that out recently in pursuit of a decent rear brake hose. Unless you know it's from an educated source, you cannot take any info. for granted. That and a loss in translation.........That's the "beauty" of the internet.

See that 3rd picture you offered above? Do a 180 with the tape measure for the width. I'm guessing it's around 2.5".

I suspect yours is the GM part they referred to per that link, post 14 and 21. You might plug these numbers into Ebay, these may be what you've got: EDITED: Bracket: 15996772 Bottle: 15687277

Thanks a bunch Chewy.

Definately a different bottle. You couldn't locate the bracket because I gave the wrong part (sorry). Here it is 15996772: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-15996772-...7f83fd&vxp=mtr

Damn my eyes............(too late)

Edit: Your bracket would mount to my vertical core support brace, above the horn. However, if centered on the width of said brace, it would hug the radiator. In other words, may not be quite right for this application.

Re: I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

I have to disagree with post 21 in that thread as far as similarities between first owners set up and 994230. I happen to have both right here in front of me and they are identical right to the screws that mounted them. there may possibly be different part #'s for the factory and dealer mounted parts but what first owner has there is a dealer truck unit.

it is tight to the radiator no doubt. I wondered about that as well. I never ran this truck but wondered if the heat would melt it. anyway ttt for you

Re: I'm looking for these OEM parts for a 71 Chevy

Ha, check that out.......... Is it just me or do some of these brackets seem to hang differently? The bracket on yours above (post 8) and post 14 in other thread appear to be square with the bottle (i.e., bracket is level), while the brackets in post 10 and 20 per the other thread are at an angle (i.e., bracket slopes downward).

Oh ya, I'm interested, PM sent.

Edit: Your mailbox is full. I wrote: Are those are OEM and straight? If so, I'll take them. If you take Paypal, I'm happy to pay the difference. They charge about 4 percent.

Let me know how you want to communicate this. Unfortunately, as stated, your private in-box is full.

Thanks!
