just like the title says, anyone know the fluid capacity of the Rockwell T-221 transfer case? Thanks in advance.

I think that might be in the chassis service manual I have at home, I look when I get out of work.

Gallons and gallons, but only a fraction of that at any one time

Just be sure to refill often.

I just did mine a few months ago but I used a big jug so I don't remember exactly. Seems like it was pretty close to what the CH465 took. Maybe a little less than the Ch465 took.

If it helps, it is one of those fill to the top of the fill hole type of deals.

Adam, my service manual doesn't give a capacity...just say's to fill it till it runs out the top level inspection hole. When I filled mine, it took less than 2 quarts. I had read posts about adding a little more, so when it started running out, I jacked the left side up till both front and rear wheels were off the ground, and filled it till it ran out again. My t-case is pretty quite compared to the stories I read on here. I bought it with the rear input bearing fried, and the pot metal cover over it broken. I replaced the bearing, and cover. Maybe that's why it's quite. I hear that bearing runs too dry without enough lube in the case, and gets noisy. Pretty easy to replace the bearing, and they are readily available at any bearing house. The cover is a little harder to find, but is available here in the Twin Cities at a truck parts store. I flat ground the cover on 220 grit sanding cloth, and carefully siliconed it to not plug the oil holes in the case, another cause of bearing failure. This is all done in the truck, and no leaks!! thanks for the replies guys, this question actually came about due to a boneheaded mistake on my part. i changed the oil yesterday, and also checked the lube in tranny, transfer, and both diffs. well i guess i just wasnt thinkin, and pulled the lower drain plug off the Rockwell. needless to say, i got a 90w shower!in my hair, mouth, splashed on my face, arms, ruined an old carhartt coat of mine, etc. boy did i feel stupid. i finally got the plug back in there, but i have no idea how much lube i lost. dad only had one quart in the garage, so i put it in, and hoped it would last until i could get to the store. today i bought more, and it took less than half a quart to top it off. side note, damn that SM465 drain plug is hard to get off! lol

Hey, you killed 2 birds w/one stone!! You changed out some of the old lube, and saved 50 bucks on a salon do to relieve dandruff, and cure split ends! How many beers did ya have to drink to kill that god-awfull taste?? I could recommend something to eat to cure the taste, too, but I will behave myself.

it wasn't too bad of a cleanup...the carhartt is used for outside chores only anyway. getting it out of my hair was a trick, though.
we had spicy Chinese food for dinner, followed up by a late night run to Taco Bell, so I couldn't really taste anything after that.

Maybe I'm weird but...I like the smell of 90w.

after i socked that plug back in, i just sat there and laughed. my dad even came outside to see if i was ok. lol
