Chrome Bumpers
1st question from a newbie.
Our old truck is going to need a new chrome bumper for the rear. Right now it has a bumper of some Toyota pickup, probably modified to fit somehow. I'd like a brand new bumper and I'd like to see what the factory bumper looked like....if there was a set style. Can someone post pics of a factory rear bumper for a '72 GMC Stepside? Also, was there a difference in the stepside rear bumper and the fleetside rear bumper? |

Re: Chrome Bumpers
The stepside and fleetside bumper look essentially the same, but the step bumper is a little narrower and curves around a little more.
The top pic is a fleet bumper on my stepside, the bottom pic is the correct stepside bumper.

Re: Chrome Bumpers
Thanks big time.
I did some internet searching yesterday and found a place that sells repro chrome bumpers but they only listed one style. I knew there had to be a difference. I'm new here and still learning....do you guys have certain places you buy from? In the jeep crowd, where I usually hang out, we have several vendors for different things and we just always know where to go for certain parts. I'm flat out lost with this new truck. |

Re: Chrome Bumpers
You find LOTS more vendors for these trucks than any Jeep. They are BY FAR the most popular classic truck. There are lots of vendors that support the board. I've bought from brothers, christians classics, and GMC pauls, I've also bought from LMC and The Truck Shop.
The reason I had a fleet bumper on my stepside was I had high hopes for a fleet bed

I've got my new steering column....just need to swap it out. Then I'm planning on getting door panels in gray, then I'll have the seat re-upholstered two tone gray to match the door panels, and the sun visors and head liner covered too. |
