Seatbelts

65 and below trucks,

do we have to use seatbelts? I read that they were options until in '66 seatbelts and many other things are mandatory. I noticed that I only have a driverside seatbelt and not sure if theres a passenger. Will I get a ticket or are we grandfathered in?

Re: Seatbelts

I would think thats an area by area or state to state deal. In Idaho, if its 40 years old it does not require them. But I would install them anyway.

Re: Seatbelts

I would also upgrade to a shoulder style belt if I were installing them

Re: Seatbelts

It is state by state.

In Oregon, as I understand it, if the vehicle came from the factory without seatbelts then you do not have seatbelts.

BUT (Oregon being a "setbelts required" state) if you install seatbelts you can get a ticket if caught not using them.

But here baby seats are required for infants and required to be held in place by seatbelts. If you do not have seatbelts you can not legally transport the baby. That is exactly the reason that in 1987 my 64 C10 got three sets of seatbelts added.

Note also (here) it is a one-way deal. Once added, seatbelts can not legally be removed, even if there was no such original equipment.
