2wd's with leaf spring rear. how common?

my 72 c10 has a leaf spring rear . the othe day i found a soft spot right above where parking brake bracket and crossmemeber are riveted on the drivers side. are the leaf spring frames just as common as coil trying to figure out if i should strip it down and fix it or just get another coil.

I've got a 71 C20 with leaf spring rear. Personally,, I prefer the leaf springs to the coils.

Re: 2wd's with leaf spring rear. how common?

I have leaf springs on my 71 C-10 Cheyenne. The SPID shows it as a G70 option. I was also surprised when I purchased the truck to find it had leaf springs. I'm not sure how rare it is, but I am guessing it is not all that common as most of the 2wd trucks I have seen have the coils with trailing arms.

Re: 2wd's with leaf spring rear. how common?

I'm sure you have all read this on here before ..........but I'll post it anyway !! LOL !

Chevrolet had the coils as standard equipment with the leaf springs as an option.
GMC had leafs as standard equipment with coils as an option.

If I have any of this wrong , please correct me !!

Re: 2wd's with leaf spring rear. how common?

Plenty of C10s had them selected as an option, but I'd venture a guess that it was more commonly chosen as an option on C20s. One note, "Heavy Duty" spring on the SPID is just a HD coil spring. Leafs will actually be called out as "leaf" on the SPID.
