Haven't seen any before, just wondering if anyone has done it or if it makes them look like junk? I'm talking about the faded paint and rusted look you sometimes see on the older trucks, usually with a shop logo of some type painted on the doors.

There was a time when I would have said it wouldn't work on the 67-72's but I have seen some nice one's. I suspect someone will do it and do it well someday...

hmmmm. That kind of sounds like a really cool idea. I can almost picture someone doing a nice photoshop on this one...but not me though. This is a real thinker because the entire truck is flat with long straight lines and where panels end, its usually straight up and down. For instance, the front end of the truck at the end of the fender and the grille is perpendicular to the ground. The older rigs almost always have fat, rounded fenders and the cabs were rounded. The patina look really fits those round (think 1948 F-1, and yeah I said it) lines like a glove. As far as the shop logo goes, I think it would look good right on top of primer. That way the look of an old workhorse is still achieved.

Here mine I just painted using flat red PPG paint. I am going to sand it down some more and make it a shop truck. I'm going to do a door logo also. I''l keep you updated

Please keep us updated, it looks great so far! I can see that the flat paint job works, but I doubt the rust would work as well... Maybe the trucks are still too new to be rusted, or maybe the body style doesn't lend itself to the rusted look.

NO! everything (in your case that old timey original paint finish) is not for all! these trucks are too NEW! more so these trucks that do not have round headlights. these trucks have their tricks that make them look really cool. learn them and do that.

The flat paint look (like the red one above and any number of black ones) looks good , and i want to go with flat gold on my K-5 if it ever gets painted, ------- but i think the patina look would make a 25 or 30 year old truck just look like a beater, but you never know

Some people want a 'beater' looking truck because less flash tends to equal less attention from 'undesirables'.

That sums up exactly how I feel about my Suburban and why it won't get a nice paint job. It doesn't draw the undesirables...

I actually like the beater look with some nice wheels and a nice interior.

I could've phrased that a little better. Depends on your tastes. If an uneducated bystander sees a '51 Chevy or '48 F-1 with the stereotypical "shop truck" treatment (slammed stance, steelies or TT 2's, lettering on the doors, etc), they wll most likely "get it" and realize that the truck is meant to be that way, but if you apply the same treatment to a '75 Scottsdale, it will just look like Uncle Bob's rust bucket. (reference point: the "Larry Mobile" from the Larry the Cable guy Health Inspector movie)

It took 23 yrs of hard work for my truck to get that faded paint & rusty patina look.

So true. for most there is no need to paint em like that because they already have the look. I like the looks of an old used truck that has earned its carictor but I would not spend money to make it look that way. Just IMO However I do like that people are using more flat colors then black. That flat red looks good.

I know the hood of my suburban is completely absent of shine, as well as sections of the roof... as for the rust, well that's in the rockers!
